Q & A : Who to vote for?
  • Q: I cannot stand Dem’s political ideals, they are commies to me. But Trump has been a wreck of the economy and repeatedly lied about what he would do and what he did. And it looks like he is senile. Who do I vote for or do I not vote at all?

Well, I am gonna kinda answer your question…probably not the way you are asking me to.

First, I agree with you on the Dems, generally speaking. They have clearly gone left…some have gone way left.

Second, Trump is not running for office. Well, kinda not running. He’s had Congress in his pocket for the last two years. If the Repubs lose the mid-terms then Trump will mostly be stopped…possibly impeached, but not removed from office.

Third, you didn’t tell me where you are from so I don’t know who the Representative candidates are for you to consider. And you may or may not have a US Senator to vote for depending on your location. So I am absolutely no help on a particular candidate.

Forth, here are some thoughts on who to vote for…

  • 1 – Hopefully you have principles compatible with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • 2 – Different principles compatible with the gospel may be found in various political parties, and you should seek candidates who best embody those principles. (Notice I said “various”…meaning not limited to 2.)
  • 3 – Study candidates carefully, pray and ask for guidance, then vote for the candidate you believe would best carry out your idea of good government.
  • 4 – Vote for candidates whose character and principles best align with your understanding of gospel values.
  • 5 – I truly believe that we have an obligation to seek out and uphold leaders who are honest, good, and wise.

Yeah, #5 pretty much eliminates most politicians, maybe all, especially those in Washington right now. But you have to do your best here.

Fifth, If you don’t vote, then you leave the country in the hands of those who do…that makes you a passive observer and at the mercy of those around you. Not good. As an American citizen you have an obligation to vote.

Sixth, I did hear a man say he was going to vote straight Democrat even though he has been a life-long Republican and voted for Trump. He said someone has to stop Trump before he completely destroys the country. Yeah, I get it. I do understand that feeling…a growing number of Republicans are against Trump. Over 30% of voters who voted for Trump no longer support him. 37% of Republicans now disapprove of his handling of the economy. About 27% of Republicans do not approve of Trump. Only 59% of Republicans think the country in on the right track. Pretty damning numbers…and perfectly understandable.

Seventh, if you are thinking of teaching the Republicans a lesson, voting all Democrat might be a good way to do it. It wold freeze Trump from doing pretty much anything else of any consequence. And the Dems wouldn’t have enough power to do anything other than to put Trump in “time-out”.

Eighth, Third-Party candidates…yeah, some real merit in that. We know conclusively that the US two-party system is pure poison for the country. That is clear as a bell. So for me personally, I am taking the advice in “Fourth” and looking for a candidate that matches all of that. Then, regardless of party affiliation, I will vote for that person.

FWIW…for the Presidential election in 2028, the guidance in “Fourth” will be my “go-to” strategy…period. Every President that I ever voted for has been a huge let-down, some traitorous. And no President in my lifetime has done a good job overall. So, from now on…no more voting for the lesser of two evils. Because yes…evil is still evil.

Maybe if people started doing more of that…well…

I bet this whole long answer didn’t help you a bit. Maybe it did…hopefully. But it is my personal philosophy…principles over politics.
