My Transition as a Prepper & the Website Transition
Let me recap…I’ve been in a transition for about a year now. I already spoke to the “national transition”, I also already laid out the case of a “preparedness/prepper transition”. Now let me talk for a minute about my transition as well as the transition that is occurring with the website.
For almost 15 years I have been posting articles and stories on my website AHTrimble.com…about 1700 total. The articles have ranged far and wide…from food storage to solar…from water purification to home defense…from gardening to current events. And boy did I even get into the political arena in some articles. However, every article was designed and written to help readers become better prepared to meet emergencies, disasters, and even “grid-down” events.
One of the primary areas I focused on in the last several years was economic issues. Why? Because it is the #1 threat to United States families in terms of probability and severity. Interestingly, I realized the last couple of months that the threats to the US, maybe the world in general, had shift from standard prepper concerns to severe economic threat(s).
Consider these facts/stats…
- 70% of all Americans report living paycheck-to-paycheck
- 40% of all Americans making $100,000 or more a year report living paycheck to paycheck
- 40% of Americans would not be able to cover a $400 emergency expense without borrowing, selling something, or using credit
- 13% of Americans cannot cover a $400 emergency expense at all
- 65% to 75% of U.S. households cannot afford a median-priced home in 2025–2026 market conditions
How many books, mine included, have been written about EMP strikes, nuclear war, civil war, golden horde, and even a Zombie Apocalypse complete with walking dead flesh eaters. I’ve read a bunch of those books, written a couple, and generally enjoyed the entertainment. However, what actually has been happening that is actively destroying the underpinning of the United States is boring, very boring…and extremely destructive…destroying American families for six decades…destroying the American Dream.
I think the fundamental problem right now is loss of agency. Agency may sound a bit like a foreign word when it comes to prepping. For me agency is the ability of a person to make meaningful choices and influence the direction of their own life. If I want to make it real simple…agency is the ability to have control over your own life and destiny.
For me, a person with significant agency can:
- Solve problems in priority order
- Adapt to change quickly and with competence
- Make informed and solid choices
- Influence outcomes in their life and their family’s life
- Recover from setbacks
- Build a better future for themselves, their family, and their community
On the other end of that spectrum A person with little agency feels more and more:
- Trapped
- Dependent on others and/or systems
- Controlled by outside forces
- Unable to influence outcomes to any meaningful degree
What I want to do going forward is help people acquire more agency, and then help build and improve their agency.
I don’t know where prepping is headed. In the long run I am not real sure even about what I will transition into as a person.
Look ya’ll…
- I don’t want to be a prophet
- I don’t want to be another guy predicting the end of the world
- I don’t want to be some cheerleader for a political party or some politician
- I want to help people
- I want to be useful
- I want to leave something behind that helps somebody
- I want to serve
Here is what I do know…I am going to change my writing, I am working on a HUGE and MAJOR change to the website. I will also be changing/improving how I deal with people and will try my best to provide more service to others.
One thing I won’t change…is my prepping…I will continue to prep. However, the focus of my prepping will be changing…and I will share that with you as time goes on.
The website is transitioning because I am transitioning.
Let me be honest and blunt…the world as I knew it, as you knew it, is dead and gone. But that old world is in transition…to what end state I don’t know.
There is and old and true saying…”Change is inevitable”. There is another related old saying as well…”Change or die.” The later may be a bit dramatic but I think pretty dang accurate.
But change is the outcome, it is the end state, it is what you turn into…it is the condition the world, our nation, is becoming. Transition is the process to get to that change. The change is the outcome, the end state.
Think…adapt and overcome.
The world is in transition, the nation is in transition, the prepping culture is in transition…and I am personally in transition…and the website is as well. Maybe it can help you, your family, or someone out there handle these transitions a little better.
Stay tuned…

We are getting ready for a big stock cash like the big one in 1929. The graphs all look the same. Stocks are melting up and we have this irrational exuberancce. When it does, our stocks crash as well as our 401k.
What are you doing to survive this?
Debi,
Honestly…there isn’t too much to do to avoid the fallout. But, there are steps to take that can help mitigate. Hard assets…tools, food, sundries, etc. the everyday stuff you use. Cash is a good bet…unless they debase the dollar…which they might. I am not a huge fan of precious metals. if it all crashes…who wants your gold if they are hungry. But i wouldn’t dismiss precious metals either….you choice. there are other metals that might be worth far more…copper, lead, brass, etc. 😉
Look back at what hurt people the most…they went hungry, couldn’t buy clothes, couldn’t pay for their house, etc. Think what your situation is then mitigate the weak points the best you can.
I tell you what…we are doing a HUGE change to the website. and once it is back up with the new design i will write an article about it.
