Congratulations on getting this far! The number of people reading this 5-part article has been amazing. The comments and text messages have been blowing up…in a good way. If you have read the first 4 parts you have ingested 11,000 of my words…that is incredible to me. I am so grateful I can’t even find the words to explain it…nor thank you enough.

Let me share my thoughts on oppressive and tyrannical governments who are in the process of evolving into a totalitarian state. Why? Because if you can’t/don’t recognize them, then you can’t fight them. The key to this is overcoming their controls, those actions that a government takes to suppress those they wish to subjugate.
Governments unrighteously exercise dominion over a people in two specific ways…power and money. Both are the equally powerful tools in the governmental employment of controls.
The most obvious one first…power. If a government is strong enough to exercise unrestrained power over people then people lose rights, freedoms, and liberties by default. Power can only exist in a single place at any given time. Either people retain their power or the government takes that power…in any given aspect of life. Example: On a national level the IRS says that it is illegal for politics to be preached from the pulpit. If a church does so, it loses it tax-exempt status. No church that I know of wants to lose that tax exempt status and watch its income dry up, so politics is kept out of churches…and government loses a check and balance. On a local level the county dictates that if you build a home, they -and only they- can give you permission to build. And they must approve how you build your home at every stage of the construction.
The other tool, money, is just as powerful but a little more devious in the obvious. Government, if it can control money, can control everything and do so with less obvious power. Every level of government in the US attempts to exercise control over people via money, although the federal government is the master of it all. The US government is the only entity authorized to produce a currency, that is the ultimate control of money. The federal government also controls the value of that money using various methods. The #1 being the monetization of the currency. If the US government wants more money it simply creates it out of thin air; there is no inherent or intrinsic value to the US dollar. So as the US government creates more money, the value of existing dollars goes done since there is more of it.
The US government also uses inflation as a weapon as well. Based on inflation alone, when I was born I was gifted $100. Now, based on inflation that $100 is worth less than $10. Then there is the most obvious, taxes. Example: The IRS demands you must pay a certain amount of the income you earn to the US federal government. Should you fail to pay what the IRS says you owe…they can take away everything you own and put you in prison. And no, neither the IRS no federal income tax is authorized in the US Constitution. On a local level there is the most insidious and evil tax of all…property tax. You fail to pay that tax (rent, in reality) to the county and they will seize your home and your family is now living on the street.
An interesting side note: income tax is the #2 plank/principle of the Communist Manifesto, property tax is the #1 plank/principle.
To be able to resist/overcome the transition of a government into a totalitarian state, and to survive what is happening in America right now…a person/family/community must be able to overcome the controls of government…money and power. And that is only accomplished by preparing in advance…overcoming a police state as it enters its final stage is almost impossible. Just ask history; Communist China, Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, etc.
Now it is essential to understand that American national DNA is different. As a country there was never anything like us before, nor since. Americans settled a continent that was wild and untamed. We overcame obstacles the likes of which few modern people have, or had ever, seen. For decades some of the brightest minds in the world tried to resolve our differences with the British Empire…essentially our cousins.
When all efforts of resolving the problems that were significant in nature, large in scope, and devastating in oppression, failed…these disorganized, mostly poor, and discounted colonists revolted. Local militias went up against the largest, most powerful, best armed, professional military that existed in the world at the time. And they held them at bay while a regular army was formed by the various colonies. Together the combined colonial forces fought, then defeated, a world super-power, and won their freedom at a steep price.
At that point men of immense stature and character rose to the occasion and put together a form of government that had not heretofore existed in the world…a Constitutional Republic.
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
It was an amazing two-fold victory; 1) defeat a tyrannical and oppressive empire and win independence, 2) from the power and consent of the people a highly restricted national government was formed.
That is the foundation of America’s DNA…we are different, we are solid, we are from the stock of patriots beyond measure who were divinely inspired and directed. Americans have a strength and capacity that few, if any, countries have ever known.
It is also important to understand how governments have historically suppressed their citizenry in the past:
- A problem, or series of problems, arise and plague the citizenry. The people become fearful and/or angry and demand resolution.
- The government/monarchy/dictator then demonizes a group of people and claim that targeted group to be the source of the problem.
- Then rights, liberties, and freedoms are restricted to resolve the problem with the targeted group.
- Then oppression of those who have been targeted as the source of the problems.
- Then step-by-step elimination/criminalization of some/all rights, liberties, and freedoms for the general population.
- Then implementation of tyranny.
- Then drastic and violent suppression of those who resist that tyranny.
- Then propaganda that the new tyranny is better then the old chaos…a form of reeducation.
As history has repeatedly proven fear is the tool of governments, the ruling elites, and evil in general. You could say similarly for despair and hopelessness. Once beaten down, a populace is more easily controlled and taken advantage of through the use of these destructive tools.
Faith, hope and charity are the tools of the spiritually blessed…and of all things good…of those with strong character and empowered spirits. For without faith, hope and charity…what good is the future?
To fight evil, meaning fear and despair, there is no room for anger, revenge, or vengeance. To overcome evil you can’t use the tools of evil, you must you utilize the opposites.
Notice I didn’t say you couldn’t use violence. Our Founding Fathers used a lot of violence to defeat oppression and tyranny. Over the course of nine years the Colonists used violence in the war of independence to a great degree…the British side suffering approximately 30,000 casualties. The Americans were defending their homes, families, and their way of life from the violence and tyranny of England. The Colonists were not shedding innocent blood, it was self-defense pure and simple. And as I pointed out earlier, all humans have that God-given right, the natural right, of self-defense. A right that has been recognized for over 2,000 years.
But how did the Founding Fathers fight English tyranny? They fought it in a number of ways; 1) in Parliament and through the British legal system, 2) the colonists developed a parallel/alternative economy free of taxation and control of the British government, 3) the Colonists also wisely fought a public relations campaign pointing out the numerous and serious grievances born by the Colonists, 4) finally, the Colonists were left with no alternative other than to fight the British with arms.
I would say clearly that this is the same model that could be used today to fight any tyrannical and oppressive government. Thankfully the American Declaration of Independence lays out that road map with precision and clarity for any people to follow.
Let’s review some of the guarantees and rights under the Declaration of Independence:
1 – Citizens are entitled to throw off an old government based on the “Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.”
2 – Citizens get that right from God because the people are “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.” Meaning clearly that God is above any and all governments…regardless of the laws of any given country.
3 – What exactly is that ‘right’ and to what degree can it be exercised? “…it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government…”
Along with those rights also come responsibilities and commitment. Herein we receive a word of caution, “…that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient Causes…”
However, there is also a responsibility involved, “But when a long Train of Abuses and Usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a Design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such Government…”
How deep should our commitment be in executing these rights and responsibilities?
“…a firm Reliance on the Protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.”
Our Founding Fathers knew that to beat the British Empire they, after having committed their all, first had to overcome the controls of that tyrannical and oppressive government. And that included starving the beast of money, taxes, fees, etc.
Now let me tie back in the whole “pantry” and “shopping” comment I made on Day #1 of this series of articles.
There is no fancy story, or some magical lesson to be learned…just prepping. I decided the day before it was time to review our “ready pantry” and restock it. I took an inventory of what we had, counting the empty spots/holes, and made a list. On Thursday before dinner with good friends we went to Walmart and spent $162 to top-off our pantry. Simple as that! But to me there was an important lesson…don’t ever let our pantry get that low again. We don’t know when that final nail will be driven, the final bell rung, and I surely don’t want that pantry to be short of what we need/want.
Here are a few of my thoughts and suggestions about preparing for what is coming. (other than #1, suggestions are not in any particular order):
1 – As mentioned in detail earlier…define and commit to principles in your life; hold them inviolate.
2 – Follow the guidelines of the 7 Common Threats/Risks in preparing your family the absolute best you can.
3 – Prepare to defend your home, your neighborhood, and your community from organized violence…regardless of its source…ANY source of violence. The three primary sources would be; a) mob, b) unorganized/loosely organized gangs/groups, c) highly organized and trained gangs/groups. Look at your home from every angle with the view of attacking it, then develop a solid plan on how you would defend it from each attack. You can use the article “Grid-Down House Security : Strengthen your door…” as a starting point.
4 – Look for every opportunity to participate in, or create, a parallel economy. Barter/trade for goods and services. Buy goods at flea markets, garage sales, thrift stores, swap meets, purchase direct from farmers/ranchers, etc.. Doing so is depriving the government of tax revenues and controls. I will be writing an article regarding the “Don’t Buy!” program.
5 – Strive to avoid every possible interaction with any level of government. Government is not your friend, government is not their to save you, it is no longer there to be the guardian of rights, liberties, or freedoms. Government is the exact opposite…avoid government whenever/wherever you possibly can.
6 – Reduce your exposure to ALL social media websites and news outlets…they produce virtually nothing more than distractions. Almost all prepper websites are little more than commercial ventures wanting your hard-earned money in their pockets. Seek out only quality, competent, and reliable prepper information from websites and people that provide what you actually need…and who you trust.
7 – Throw off anger, revenge, confrontation, conflict, contentions, and vengeance to the absolute best of your ability. These are all tools that cloud you mentally and dull you spiritually.
8 – Focus only on that which is important to your prepping for what is coming. Get rid of ALL distractions to the best of your ability.
9 – Get all of the medical and dental procedures done as soon as possible for all members of your family as appropriate. Teeth cleaned, physicals, cavities filled, prescriptions refilled, eye exams, etc. Years ago I heard a story of a person whose just had their 30-day prescription filled and went back to their doctor and asked for a 90-day prescription, and got it filled at another pharmacy (to spread their business around). Three days later they accidentally lost that bottle of pills and had to get it replaced. Now just think if they had not lost that bottle…they would have had at least 6 months of that medication on hand at that point.
10 – If you are not already a member of a church, join one. If you are already a member of a church, strengthen your personal relationship with God and His Son Jesus Christ. As part of the discipleship, look for every opportunity to serve others. You are the hands of God and His son.
11 – Learn yourself, then teach your family correct principles. The best education you can give your children is yours, from you. Wherever possible remove your children from the public education system and home school you children. If you are grandparents and your grown children home school…then become substitute teachers for them 🙂
12 – Pray. Pray for divine intervention. Pray for national/state/local/global leaders hearts to be touched by God. Pray that people will wake up and come to their senses regarding the awful state of our country and the world. Pray for God to tell you exactly what you need to be doing to prepare for the quickly approaching future. Pray often and pray sincerely.
This is not a battle that can be easily won…but it can be won! It will take each and every one of us doing the best we can for as long as we can…and you are capable of that…we are fully capable of winning.
Ponder, Pray, Prepare, then Do! And then pray some more, pray for divine intervention.
Remember this…evil in our country, yea, in the entire world, doesn’t have to win in their efforts.
I am now finished…I can’t write anymore on this subject that wouldn’t be redundant or of diminishing value.

We are participants in history, we are walking through the valley of the shadow of death right now…but, do not fear the future…we know He wins…we just have to do our part to the best of our ability.

This is a great and comprehensive list, much food for thought! And I love your emphases. Lots of people expend a lot of energy and bluster talking about picking up pitchforks and storming the castle, which I believe is futile and a waste of energy and time to even think about. Look what TPTB did with Jan 6??? Our focus needs to be on what we CAN do, in our lives, our homes, neighborhoods, and in our own heads and spirits. That is the real battle.
We’ve been working on so many of these items! We have been working in our “hood” on an alternate economy – have started a bartering newsletter, a food pantry where people can pick up/exchange needed/excess items; we are willing to exchange food from our garden for help working around the place. I’m going to have to study your #2! Have a couple neighbors networked to address #3, and a quarterly “campfire” meeting group of neighbors and friends that we all have each other’s backs which is good.
For some time been avoiding any dealings with Big Brother possible, don’t do social media (except for AVOW…) 7 is a tough one, I will continue to wrestle with that, including fear! But you are right, it is crucial – keeping our heads and spirits in the game and cleaned up of crap is the be all and end all. Yesterday after attending the temple was talking with the DH about how crucial it is to be more equanamous – let things BE – be able to watch bad stuff happen without HATING it so much.
Always strive to be ahead of the game on the medical front; have 6 mos to a year of meds accumulated, up to date on appointments, stockpiled other meds via India… Very involved with 10, and helping our congregation to be prepared.
Do 8 probably to a fault. Have to deal with burnout from time to time. Try 11, family is not always excited to hear my admonitions, I try to keep them to a minimum but keep at it nonetheless! And, at the end of the day, it all comes down to #12. Because everything, including us, is all in His hands. And as you point out, we have read the book, and we know how it ends.

Geez I’m not suchamuch! I was thinking, one other thing I might add to your list that I have felt very impressed I need to work on, is getting ourselves physically in top shape. Been working with a trainer, got hooked up with a really good naturopath, doing lots of tests, taking important supplements, reading lots on health and longevity, we’ve been working on cleaning up our diet, etc. I don’t want to ever outlive my usefullness, want to be able to meet the challenges that come our way and be of help to my family and friends.
