Today, many of our politicians mistakenly refer to our form of government as a democracy. However, our founders did not establish a democracy, they established a constitutional republic, a new form of government designed to prevent a true democracy by separating governmental powers into specific separate but equal bodies. Each body given specific rights, powers and authority; a judiciary to interpret laws; an executive to administer and see that things run smoothly; and a congressional body, that was further divided into two sub-bodies, one that is based on population, the other based on equal representation, and set up so both bodies must agree in establishing laws, budgets and policies. The electoral college was also established at some point, to prevent large population states from running rampant over the desires of less populous states. Over many years, the separation of powers have been ursurped through lack of constitutional understanding by those we have elected to positions of authority, and through outright corrupt individuals and groups attempting to gain control of “we the people”. Constitutional education today has been watered down to the point that the true understanding of our constitutional republic is no longer taught, appreciated, or celebrated. The men who signed that document were willing to pledge “our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.” Where are such men today?

John!!!
I was moved by your words…they are spot on! They touched my heart.
You did an amazing job stating truth and historical fact.
Have you noticed how even conservatives talk about the US being a ‘democracy’ vs a Constitutional Republic.
Where did you learn this?
Thank you again,

People tend to think that deTocquevilles treatise, “Democracy in America” is extolling democracy’s virtues. Far from it. It was a warning.
The democratic tendency… leads men unceasingly to multiply the privileges of the state and to circumscribe the rights of private persons… often sacrificed without regret and almost always violated without remorse… men become less and less attached to private rights just when it is most necessary to retain and defend what little remains of them.”
“True friends of liberty… ought constantly to be on the alert to prevent the power of government from lightly sacrificing the private rights of individuals to the general execution of its designs. At such times no citizen is so obscure that it is not very dangerous to allow him to be oppressed; no private rights are so unimportant that they can be surrendered with impunity to the caprices of a government… [because] men accustom themselves to sacrifice private interest without scruple and to trample on the rights of individuals in order more speedily to accomplish any public purpose.”

Wow! That is powerful…and all so true.
How does the saying go? “Democracy is 2 wolves and a sheep deciding what is for dinner.”
Thank you,
