SitRep – 11/21/2024 – Lessons Learned

I watched the video a couple times after I had posted it, once with my wife.

So here is what I learned from the first ever video SitRep:

  1. I don’t have a ‘radio voice’…at all. My voice just didn’t sound right for the video. It almost sounded muffled and I definitely spoke too slowly. I think it might be possible to work on those issues with the audio editor.
  2. The volume level was not consistent. During production I stopped and made a couple of changes, what I didn’t realize was that the changes affected the volume of my audio. Even after editing it a couple of times with the audio editor I still don’t think it was very professional.
  3. Some of the graphics I used were way too small and didn’t appear well on the screen. Easy fix, use larger graphics.
  4. Some of the graphics could have been been more appropriate to what I was talking about.
  5. It took about 4+ hours to produce the video. That was a lot of time consuming work. That being said, I was not real familiar with the software and that alone had a learning curve itself. If I had written it and posted it on the website as a regular written SitRep with graphics it would have taken less than half that time, even with substantial editing, etc.

Bottom line…I am not sure if this is the way to go for SitReps. I am just not sure of the best way to get the information out there to the people who are really interested. Videos are the ‘thing’ with many folks and growing in popularity vs having to take the time to actually read. I am just not sure that people who don’t want to read would be interested in my SitReps to begin with.

I would like you guys to take this short survey and let me know what you think. Because, honestly, I am only wanting to reach and provide information to you guys…the ones who are really interested and see value in what I am doing.
