Hoax Alert: Amazon Suspends All Shipments Other Than Medical Supplies, Household Staples

Hoax AlertThis is only the second article in this series, I hope they mean something to you. They should!  You need to know what is real, what is not, what is truth, and what is a lie. Please read this entire alert…there is more to it than a simple warning.

Article headline – “Amazon Suspends All Shipments Other Than Medical Supplies, Household Staples”

Sounds very serious doesn’t it? Could easily add to the fear about the COVID-19 situation, right? Lead to more panic buying? Contribute to the potential for violence amongst stressed out customers trying to buy essential household items, yes?

But the real question should be…Is it true? And, where did it come from?

The second question is simple to answer…a major paid membership prepper website. Now, what’s the answer to the first question? That answer is very simple as well…NO, it’s a lie…a 100% lie!

And it was very easy to figure out. All I had to do was read the article itself. Yes, the article that the headline was attached to. The article quoted Amazon as “We are temporarily prioritizing household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products coming into our fulfillment centers so that we can more quickly receive, restock, and deliver these products to customers…”

Let’s read that again with the key to this hoax…“We are temporarily prioritizing household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products coming into our fulfillment centers so that we can more quickly receive, restock, and deliver these products to customers,”

The word suspend doesn’t appear anywhere in the article. Yes, that means the headline of the article is completely and totally false. But, before I passed judgement on the truthfulness of the headline or article I went to the source: (source article). And as you would expect…the word “suspend” doesn’t appear in the article ANYWHERE!

And just to make sure the headline was false…I checked my own Amazon account. The door hinges I ordered yesterday were shipped out to me today and are due to arrive on Thursday. So yes, they are shipping non-essential, lower-end  items.

Conclusion: The headline of the post on the prepper website is a lie. Plain and simple…the headline is 100% untrue.

So why would a website lie like this? Let’s look at it objectively…the person making this post either intentionally lied or unintentionally used a word that isn’t correct. Let’s look at those two options.

Unintentional use of a word that doesn’t appear in the article and creates a significant difference in Amazon’s message. Well, that means the person never actually read what he wrote. Or, he is ignorant and doesn’t understand the difference between “prioritize” and “suspends”. Or, ok…what else could it be?

Intentional misrepresentation of the truth…why would he do it? First into my head is he has something against Amazon and wishes to hurt their business. If people would read the headline and not the article they would get the distinct impression that Amazon was essentially closed for business…other than essential items such as medical supplies, etc.

Next, maybe the person posting the headline wishes to create “click bait” in an attempt to capture people’s attention. Doing so creates more website traffic, which in turn creates more business, which drives up profits. So maybe his intention is money/profit driven.

Lastly, maybe they are other, darker, reasons. Such as, perhaps he wishes to add to the panic and fear by representing a major retailer essentially closing their doors? Maybe he is trying to fan the flames of panic buying? Or add to the existing sense of general panic in the US population right now?

Who knows why he did it, or what his intention is?

But, his intention matters not! The fact of the matter is the headline is very dishonest. Yes, a lie. And through that lie he is adding to panic, fear, and hysteria that is growing in America. Shameful!!!  Reprehensible!!!

Now, a little more information…the person who posted the headline is the owner of the website. And…the very first Hoax Alert (3/16/2020)…yeah, it was another article from his website!! So now we have two fraudulent posts from a single website in two days. What passes through your mind at this point? What questions does it raise?

I am telling you point blank…Their are disreputable people out there driving fear, panic, and hysteria. Further, some people are doing so unintentionally through ignorance…others are doing it for their persona agenda.

Please don’t get caught up in all the fake and fraudulent information out there. Stick with facts and credible information, and view/opinions from sources you trust. And, learn how to think critically and independently. Many folks can’t or won’t think for themselves, many can’t see lies vs. truth. A breeding ground for GroupThink and Confirmation Bias. Avoid it like the plague…a plague much worse than COVID-19.

Immediate Action Warning! (3/17/2020)

3/17/2020 – 0800

COVID – 19

Background –

CIVID-19 discovery was announced in December of 2019 in China, it showed up in the United States early in 2020, it became a problem for the US in February when the panic began…and the panic that is occurring is now in earnest. Although repeatedly COVID-19 has proven to be a relatively minor flu problem compared to the regular flu season (in terms of deaths), a sense of panic has developed. The panic, bred from fear and hysteria, has been promoted by almost every sector imaginable. The media, government sources, leftist politicians, some well-meaning medical personnel, and most of all, commercial enterprises such as some prepper websites, have successfully created that sense of panic to a point where it is becoming almost unmanageable.

We are seeing local and state governments taking extraordinary actions that they are claiming will help control the spread of the virus. However, those same actions are creating, or fueling, that sense of panic and will push civil disturbances and violence, let alone simple discontent. Another spin-off from the hype hustler actions is panic buying. That is a situation, driven by emotion, where people are buying supplies far, far beyond what they would normally purchase. They are in “survival mode”; having food and other supplies around them gives them a sense of security and safety. However, we are seeing that panic buying pushed to extremes.

Last Friday I was in Walmart for our weekly food run and some other purchasing. I reported on that experience in my SitRep – 3/12/2020 (updated 3/15/2020). Over the weekend I heard stories of more panic buying, some associated violence, and significant shortages. I wanted to verify that information for myself before commenting on the situation.

On Monday afternoon when I went to several stores I noticed a number of situations:

  • Walmart shelves were less bare than on Friday, but very far from normal amount of food items. At the rate people were shopping I would expect those items to be gone within a couple of hours, at most, of my visit. And another interesting note…a much wider variety of items where either gone or in shorter supply than on Friday. I attribute that to the more commonly purchased items having run out of stock and folks were purchasing less-popular, less-common substitute items.
  • I also went over to the pharmacy section at Walmart to assess the status on vitamins, specifically vitamins related to boosting an immune system. Vitamin C, B-Complex, B-12, Zinc, Potassium, Magnesium, etc. were all gone. While there I noticed, as I did on Friday, it appeared to me that the pharmacy personnel were busier than normal. But, that is antidotal information only. And, I did notice that there was not a single person in line to pick up medications.
  • However, as I was approaching a sporting goods store in a local strip mall I noticed a small pharmacy that was in the same strip mall. I walked in and was pleasantly surprised to find all immune system boosting supplements with the exception of Zinc. No bare shelves, no shortages other than Zinc.
  • I had received reports of ammunition shortages, bare ammunition shelves, and long lines to purchase guns. Some of those were rather dramatic in nature. I went to a local strip mall that has two sporting goods stores of major retail chains. Neither store was out of ammunition. Quite honestly, neither store appeared to have a low stock of ammunition on their shelves. Also, one store had no one looking at their large selection of guns. The other store appeared to have the same situation going on, but I couldn’t tell for sure. Bother stores had a full rack of guns on display. And yes, Walmart had the same situation as well with the exception that there were two people in Walmart buying ammo. But, they were small amounts…not stocking up for a firefight. So I was unable to substantiate the ammunition shortage stories and gun panic buying.
  • Local and state governments are increasingly taking drastic and unwarranted actions. Those actions are feeding the flames of fear and increasing the state of panic. We are seeing governors ordering the closures of restaurants, theaters, bars, concerts, sporting events, schools, and banning meetings of various sizes from 10 – 100. Some mayors have taken even more draconian steps. And at least one mayor has banned the sale of firearms. President Trump himself alluded that he is resisting nationwide travel restrictions, curfews, etc. However, and this is vital information…he has not ruled it out.
  • A business from of mine who deals in various prepper supplies told me yesterday that ALL of his suppliers told him they are out of all food storage items as well as ALL other regular prepper supplies. And they wouldn’t commit to a date when those supplies would be available.
  • Finally, I am beginning to receive reports that shortages of truck drivers are starting to roll into me. Now, I have not observed that situation personally nor have I been able to verify those reports with credible sources. It’s all antidotal information at this time.
Warning Specifics –

As different levels of government continue to tighten controls on the private citizen’s travel, activities, etc. we see a pattern developing that is a cause for concern. I would expect to see government entities at the state-level and below continue to increase travel restrictions, enact curfews, close more businesses, government offices, and similar actions. I would not be surprised to see even more, and similar, steps taken by the federal government in the next 7 – 10 days.

As we see panic buying continue, and possibly increase, we could well see even greater shortages of essential goods for sale. If that continues, combined with the reports of truck driver shortages, we could experience a significant disruption of the supply chain in the US. We are already seeing a serious disruption in the supply chain due to reduced shipments of goods from China. US stock piles of essential goods could soon be depleted due to those disruptions.

I am advising you to prepare for significant shortages of essential goods.

At this point in time I see we could be looking at significant shortages of pharmaceuticals. The potential for seeing complete depletion of supplies of some pharmaceuticals is possible should the supply chain disruption situations continue or worsen. Some food items from any source could become very scarce as well. I am uncertain about ammunition supplies but my gut feeling tells me that we could see wide-spread shortages, as opposed to local shortages only.  I sense that guns could fall into that same category, just not as quickly.

Actions to Take –

Steps to consider…

1 – Immediately assess your situation in regards to food, water, and pharmaceuticals.

2 – Food: I am referring to pantry items and long-term food storage. Have a minimum of 30-days of food on hand, 90 day supply would be far more preferable.

3 – Water: With regards to water have a minimum of 14 days of stored water on hand and a way to purify water for a period of at least 90 days.

4 – Pharmaceuticals: I include medications and supplants in this category. If possible acquire a minimum of 60-day supply of medications, 90-day would be preferable. For immune system boosting vitamins and supplements I would recommend having 90-day supply on hand. And don’t delay in taking them, start taking them now. Obviously I am no doctor or other medical professional. Before taking any medication, vitamin, or supplement consult your physician and follow their advice.

5 – Guns & Ammo: If you are short on ammo…SHAME ON YOU! You should not be in this situation. If you are, go buy some ammo today. If you don’t have a gun…well, you probably shouldn’t buy one now because you also probably don’t have any training with one. If you do have weapon’s training but no weapon, then you might want to go purchase an appropriate weapon along with sufficient amounts of ammo, magazines, pouches, etc.

6 – FirstAid Supplies: Assess the supplies you have on hand and evaluate if you need to purchase more, or supplement what you have.

I would advise that any purchases you feel are necessary should be made without delay. Stocks of any of the mentioned items could dwindle, possible disappear, without any significant advanced warning.

Summary –

As I have stated before; 1) this is an unprecedented situation, 2) fear has gripped more of the US than even last week, 3) panic buying is well underway and will worsen, 4) supply chain disruptions have occurred and are worsening, 5) restrictions are being put into place at all levels of government and are worsening, 6) more “unknowns” exist now than even last week. My sense is we could see the panic situation get even worse; potentially drastically worse.

If you have been following my website for any length of time you will plainly see that for years I have been giving clear information on what supplies to have and how much. I can only hope you followed those guides and took appropriate action. However, if you are short in some areas of preparing you still have a window of opportunity to make purchases to help your situation. But…DO NOT PANIC BUY!!

Use a level head, common sense, and sound decision making to identify those items you may need to purchase. The…DO NOT delay in making those purchases. I would also advise you to have a Plan B and Plan C for each item on your list. If they don’t have “A”, purchase “B”. If they don’t have “B” purchase “C”.

Stay calm and carry on like the decent and mature person you are.

Hoax Alert: US Government Now Controlling Food Supply

Hoax AlertI am starting a brand new “category” here on my website. I’ve decided that I will dedicate some of my time to showing you perfect examples of HOAX information. And right now…hoax information is contributing to the fear, panic, and hysteria surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak.

To properly assess any situation you must be able to acquire and understand information to make correct decisions. And the information must be credible. There is far, far too much information out there that isn’t credible…avoid it like the plague!

Yes, pun intended 🙂  False information leading to poor decisions is worse than the COVID-19 by an exponential factor. For quality Situational Awareness you have to be able to discern credible information from a hoax.

The other day I became aware of an Internet article starting to be circulated… it stated that the US Government took over control of the food distribution chain.

Article headline – “Grocery Insider: US Government Now Controlling Food Supply Distribution As Coronavirus Turns Into National Nightmare

So, you read the article headline and you think: OMG the government is now controlling the food supply and distribution of food in the United States. Man, if there was ever a time to be fearful, that would be it…the federal government controlling food!

Well, let’s look into it….

  • The person posting the link on an second-hand website doesn’t have any credentials in emergency preparedness.
  • I went to the article’s website and first thing I noticed was a site plastered with dozens and dozens of ads. So that tells me that the site is a commercial, for profit website. Not a sin by itself…but, they were advertising books on legends of apocalyptic events, kids stories, nuns and the devil, etc. Then the ads went into life insurance, skin care, belly fat, Trump coin, home mortgages, web hosting, precious metals…and that was just the beginning, there was dozens of more ads. What does that tell you?
  • They wanted you to download a PDF file. WHAT???  Yeah, download a file from a website that you know nothing about…right. There is a confidence builder.
  • So then I decided to view their “about” page. They claim they “will cover Straight News topics such as economy, politics, current events, health, technology, religion, etc… as well as Alternative News, which will include prophecy, NWO, Illuminati and all things conspiracy.”  Ahhhhhh, reporting on all things “…prophecy, NWO, Illuminati and all things conspiracy…” What? Yeah, another high quality example of competency and credentials for talking about the COVID-19 situation.
  • Next came the picture of the article author…Check that guy out! You be the judge…dew rag, sunglasses inside a house, hair halfway down his torso, unkempt beard and moustache, etc. But, what sealed the deal for me…the Bruce Lee poster hanging on his wall behind him. Think about that for a second…a supposedly grown man, maybe around 40, with a Bruce Lee poster on his wall? Or maybe that is just his office…in his parents’ basement (notice the stairs on the far right of the picture)
  • His statement that Walmart was unable to receive their “…normal shipment ordered due to government now controlling where food goes…” sounds ominous! OK, and what is his source of information for this BREAKING NEWS???  Ah, according to the article author himself…a Walmart employee who stocks shelves.

Now, that is a point to really ponder…The only information out on the Internet that the government of the United States of America has taken over the US food supply and is controlling its distribution comes from a Walmart employee stocking shelves. In exactly what universe is that credible? Think about it…nothing from any major media outlet, nothing from any cable news show, nothing from any news wire service, no government media announcement, no leak from a government insider (i.e. Whistle Blower), nothing from any politician (especially those that hate Trump)…nothing, nada, zip, zero! But, this shelf stocker breaks the news!!!

Does any of that add up? Does it make sense to the reality part of your brain? Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Then someone else, seeking to give this hoax credibility, uses a 4-year old article “Secret Government Warehouse Stockpiling for Pandemic: ‘Can’t Be Discussed Publicly’”  Duh!  Yeah…the government makes purchases all the times in preparation for all kinds of scenarios…for the same exact reason you do! It’s called preparedness. Nothing new here…standard procedure for the US government…like the US Army buying bullets for a potential war or simply for training. It’s SOP ! !

Then the same person uses another article “Inside A Secret Government Warehouse Prepped For Health Catastrophes” …attempting to gain more credibility. Oh come on!!!!  That article is also 4 years old, and is being sensationalized just like the previous one. Of course the government is going to stockpile supplies…that’s their job, that’s what they do all of the time!!! It’s called PREPAREDNESS ! !

So we have the original article written by a whackado (as far as credentials and crecibility), the article uses a Walmart shelf stocker as its source, posted to a website with ZERO credibility, as a reliable source of news…propped up by additional articles that are 4 years old by more authors who have no clue what they are writing about.

Now, is that information you want to use for your Situational Awareness?

However, if you wish to read the articles for entertainment purposes…like you would watch the movie Dumb and Dumber…well, that would make perfect sense.

The people that originate this kind of crap are irresponsible at best, reprehensible at worst. They have no desire to provide information with even the slightest credibility…they are looking for click bait for their own personal or commercial agenda.

And those that pass on those kinds of articles on are ignorant at best, complicit in the scam/hoax at worse. Then again…maybe they have their own agenda as well.

Whatever the case…all those involved are adding to the fear, panic and hysteria of the American people. Shameful and reprehensible…unconscionable!

Be smarter than the hoax hustlers, be wiser than their co-conspirators…read credible information from reliable sources. Only feed your Situational Awareness with quality information. Leave the panic and fear to those who enjoy being duped.

FAQ – 3/16/2020 (COVID-19)

  • I heard an expert say this virus [COVID-19] will be worse than the Spanish Flu outbreak on 1918. What should I do to prepare for that?

Three issues; 1) “expert”, 2) reality, 3) preparation.

Expert: Who is the so-called expert and what qualifies him to be called that? Is he a regular doctor? Are they a virologist or epidemiologist or infectious disease physician? Remember 50% of all doctors, and specialty physicians, graduated in the bottom half of their classes. OK, a little humor injected into the discussion but I hope you get that point. And just because they are some world-renowned physician doesn’t mean they are experts on emergency incident management, including virus outbreaks. They understand a very narrowly focused area of expertise. And when they talk/report they usually do so in what could happen (i.e. worse case scenarios).  So I would like you to consider what makes them an expert.  FYI in all my years of emergency management I never met a single doctor who was on an Incident Management Team as a member of the Command and General Staff. If present at all, doctors are usually buried down the chain of command in the Medical Unit…never in a command position.

Reality: Let’s remember that the Spanish Flu was over a 100 years ago. It also infected about 500 million people and killed approximately 30 – 50 million. That is a mortality rate of approximately 6 – 10%. In the United States, we lost almost 700,000 to death from the Spanish Flu. However, there were two strains of the Spanish Flu. The first outbreak was in the Spring, was a relatively mild form and almost everyone recovered from it. It died down in the Summer but mutated along the way and in the Fall when it broke out again it took on the more deadly, highly contagious form.

Here are some of the differences between now and 1918 as it relates to this “panic”:

  • In 1918 the primary form of travel was horse drawn. Cars were still pretty much a novelty, they had been invented only three decades earlier. It would be another decade for cars to become common.
  • In 1918 airplanes were almost non-existent. Fifteen years earlier the first flight took place…lasted 12 seconds and only flew 120 feet. The vast majority of people had never seen an airplane by 1918.
  • In 1918 vaccines wouldn’t be generally available to the public till the next decade. The first vaccines from western medicine appear in the late 1700’s but it wasn’t until the late 1880’s that vaccines took their first big step. In 1918 the first flu vaccine was still 20 years away.
  • By 1918 modern Aspirin was only 18 years old. It was patented by a German pharmaceutical company and not readily available to everyone in the world or the United States. In 1918 aspirin was considered a miracle drug.
  • Penicillin was the first modern antibiotic…and was still ten years away.
  • Phones were available…but the first coast-to-coast telephone call had taken place in the US only 3 years earlier.
  • The standard treatment for a gunshot wound to an arm or leg in WWI (1918) was amputation.

So you get my point. There is a HUGE difference between our medical capabilities of 1918 and medical technologies of today. So there is NO realistic or relative comparison between the Spanish Flu of 1918 and COVID-19…its treatment, prevention or any other aspect…PERIOD!

Just to touch on an old sore spot of mine…the loudest voices right crying about COVID-19 are the radical left (Democrats/Liberals/Progressives), some ignorant folks on the right, and a portion of the medical community. And that crying is over less than 6,000 deaths worldwide, less than 200 here in the US. But there is an epidemic in the US that kills well over a million each year. Yup…OVER A MILLION DEATHS EACH YEAR!!!  The loudest voices that I mentioned above are promoting that epidemic. It’s called abortion. We kill over a million babies each year and that is perfectly fine with those despicable Democrats/Liberals/Progressives, most in the medical field, and many Republicans, even some so-called conservatives. Actually, they encourage it, promote it, brag about it, and fund it! But we get 200 deaths and it is a National Emergency?????   Wow…do we have our priorities screwed up or what!?!?

Preparation: Now to the crux of your question…prepare to not contract COVID-19 virus just like you would any other flu or cold virus. Prepare to deal with the hysterical panic of the COVID-19 like I have been writing about for quite a while now…just go read the articles.

  • Why don’t we put a doctor in charge of the virus battle?

I already answered that in detail in a previous question toady. However, just to be clear…doctors (we’re talking MD’s) are Subject Matter Experts (SME), they tend to not be very good leaders in emergencies because they have a narrowly focused area of expertise…and that breeds tunnel vision. So no, you don’t want a doctor in charge of any virus battle…you want a trained/qualified/experienced/competent Incident Commander in charge with a high-quality Command and General Staff for support. Doctors make great advisors to an Incident Management Team. They also make good leaders of the Medical Unit under the Logistics Section or Medical Response Team leadership in the Operations Section. But that’s it.

  • Why aren’t you telling us exactly how to prepare for this? You’re supposed to be a preparedness “expert”, right?

Well first off, you have to decide if I am expert or not. I’ve outlined my credentials before but it is your decision on viewing me as an expert or not. And I am not going to take the time to repeat the good advice out there for preventing contraction of the virus or getting over it. I outlined clearly what we are doing here in my family and me personally. What I am providing details on is the spinoff of the virus…dealing with the panic and hysteria.

  • You aren’t worried because you are all prepared and insulated from all of this virus crap. What about the rest of us?

Let me make this real clear…I am in the perfect demographic to catch the virus in many aspects. Most susceptible demographic over 50, existing lung condition, and have contracted bronchitis and pneumonia before. I am in my mid-60’s, my lungs took a beating as a firefighter and I have some limited lung damage, and I have had lung problems such as bronchitis and pneumonia in the past. So forget some special immunity you think I might have. But yes, I have done everything prudent to prepare myself to avoid getting it…or getting over it…without dying. Now, as for the “rest of us”… Why in the hell do you think I have this website in the first place? I have been providing emergency, disaster, and grid-down advice for over a decade. And doing so for FREE!  You don’t pay a thing to visit my site and read nearly a thousand preparedness articles. There isn’t even an ad that shows up like virtually all the other prepper websites. And I am not selling a preparedness book of secrets to survive an apocalypse. I care about each and every person that visits my site and have provided a huge amount of information to help you through this…or any other emergency, disaster, and grid-down event. You just got to read!

OK, sorry about the rant, no offense intended at all…I am just getting a little frustrated with this panic virus thing. If you have a specific question please ask it through the form below, I will happy to answer any and all.

  • Where’s the CVOID-19 virus outbreak article you mentioned that you would post?

I decided there won’t be one. Through my SitReps (3/12/2020 and 3/15/2020), my Immediate Action Warning, now a couple of FAQs (3/14/2020) I am getting the information there that I wanted to. Maybe even in a better format this way than a single article. If something changes I might reconsider writing that article but for now I am saying what I wanted/needed to convey to you.

  • When you were panic buying at Walmart did you really give that Walmart guy $20 to get you some milk from the back cooler?

No, that was for dramatic flair and to hopefully make you smile. In other words…it was strictly literary license for entertainment purposes. As you become more familiar with my writing style you will see that I weave some humor (or attempts at it) into my writing from time to time. Now, whether people actually snicker or laugh…or even smirk at my attempts are another whole story.

SitRep – 3/15/2020

A number of things have taken place over the last few days that I feel an update to my SitRep – 03/12/2020 and my Immediate Action Warning of 3/13/2020 is warranted. Please indulge me, I would like to cover…

  • Supplies Availability
  • System/People Stressing
  • Emergency Declaration
  • Steps to Consider

Supplies Availability –

On Thursday a very good friend of mine called me from Phoenix. He wanted to update me on the situation in Phoenix. Now, this is no regular guy…he is a retired Army NCO, combat vet, wounded in combat, was part of a very high-profile operation a number of years ago that resulted in one of the longest, most intense firefights we’ve seen in modern warfare, and former law enforcement. He currently provides security services in the greater Phoenix area. I am grateful and proud to call him “friend” and “brother”…and truly grateful he has property right next to mine here in the great wilderness of Arizona.

So he tells me that things are getting crazy in the Phoenix area…people are acting stupid, panic buying, and the situation has all the ear-marks of turning ugly at some point. And with a population of over 4million that means it isn’t a good place to be when things get bad.

We were reviewing our strategy for our area here and he was explaining some of his bugout plans and trigger points. But I wanted to know more about the situation there among the people in general. Well, well, well…perfect timing. See, his wife is in law enforcement (so you can understand her reaction), and about an hour earlier she had gone to Walmart to do the weekly shopping. She had just texted him and it was not good. He told me she had found all canned good shelves empty, no beef, no chicken, no paper goods, and people were acting like idiots and being rude. Their carts were full and some people had multiple carts piled high. She was furious. And he forwarded me her last text. Wow!  If I were to reprint it here I would be using a lot of *&#@**^ characters.

OK, put that aside for a minute. We were scheduled to go into town later Friday to do our pre-weekend shopping plus our fuel run. That means a stop at Walmart and/or Safeway, plus the propane dealer, and the fuel depot for gasoline and diesel. I told my wife that in addition to the normal shopping at Walmart, I thought there might be some entertainment value there as well. She wasn’t impressed with my assessment…I have a way with words.

First stop…propane dealer. My buddy who works there told me they had been busy all week long. But, today (meaning Friday) it was slammed busy from the minute they opened…and he was concerned they might run out of propane before they received their next delivery. Normally they close at 4pm on Friday, I got there at 3:45…there was a long line. When I left at almost 4:30 the line was really long, much longer than when I arrived. People were bringing in large numbers of small and large tanks…and I mean lots of them. When I went into the office to pay for my propane the gal who normally works in a back office was alone taking payments at the front counter. She was also answering the phone non-stop. People were begging her to get propane that day. She was telling people that they had every driver and truck out on the road but it would be impossible to get to them before the middle of next week. When she got to me I could tell she was very frazzled. Panic buying! She joked that buying propane was a sure cure for the virus.

So I had to get a 1”x8” board at Lowe’s to finish up trimming one of the windows in the great room at the new house. And was I surprised…late Friday afternoon at Lowe’s and it was virtually empty. No panic buying there!

Next came Walmart. Wife and I talked through the situation, went over our distress word and tactics in case we had to leave the store under a threat. She loves talking about that stuff…not! Once again…I have a way with words…she loves my briefings.  She isn’t feeling real well for a couple of days and I offered to let her stay in the truck, she hates Walmart crowds even in the best of times. She said, “Absolutely not! You wouldn’t have anyone to watch your back.”

Wow! Did I get educated quickly once in Walmart…it was packed with people! And I mean packed tight…people with mostly filled carts in an almost bumper car frenzy. So check this out…

  • The bread isle shelves were empty…bare to the bones with the exception of some English Muffins. Wife remembered some fancy bread back near the door…off she went and a few minutes later a loaf was in our cart…my eyes scanning for anyone attempting a snatch operation.
  • The peanut butter and jelly section stripped bare with the exception of a couple of jars of some fancy organic strawberry jelly. A jar of that went into our cart…hey, I like strawberry jelly.
  • The canned vegetable isle was stripped as well with a few exceptions. A jar of sauerkraut went into the cart. Hey, you can’t have patty melts without sauerkraut! And she had patty melts on the menu for next week. Yum!!!
  • The paper goods isle was stripped. I think they even took the paint off the TP shelving units. While we were walking down the isle towards the candy section a middle aged guy made eye contact with me and smiled…”gonna buy me some paper towels saw em in half with my band saw and make a fortune selling it as toilet paper.” I chuckled…had to. Another Mark Cuban in the making!
  • Candy section was in good shape. And that proves how little people know about prepping and panic buying…the chocolate section should have been the first isle emptied out!
  • I went for the milk…Gone!!!  Only a couple of small bottles of flavored coffee creamer. But, I had spotted “Mike” a few minutes before, an overworked Walmart associate. I coopted him into getting me two half gallons of 1% out of the back cooler. Yeah, I had looked through the glass doors and saw about 5 cases of milk…all that was left. And that’s I why the 1% was purchased. Kinda like white colored water in my opinion. But any milk is better than no milk. I hid the milk under the big pack of Styrofoam cups in the cart. Mike was $20 richer and smiling!
  • In the remainder of the dairy section the cheese was almost all gone and only very little canola oil based butter was left.

Well, you get the picture.

What I found interesting…two groups of people in Walmart; 1) those of us that were entertained by all the panic buying taking place, 2) people who were panicking, buying, talking in hushed tones, and pushing their carts rapidly to the next empty shelf area…then on to some substitute item. All the time jealously guarding the case of sardines, paper napkins, and pickled artichoke hearts that lay in their carts.

I will give Walmart credit…they were pulling out pallets of food and other items from the back. But little of it ever made it to the shelves…people grabbed it up before that could happen. The associates were polite and steady…but you could tell they were beginning to feel the stress.

So…what happens when the food is no longer pulled out from the back stockroom? Or the trucks are no longer traveling the roads delivering food or propane or fuel due to travel restrictions or fuel shortages?

System/People Stressing –

The story I didn’t share with you was leaving our backwoods area on the way into town. Just before we hit the hardtop road we met our neighbors coming back from town. They were pulling their trailer that was filled with hay, feed, stall bedding, propane tanks, etc. The back of the truck had some boxes from Amazon and food from Walmart. Part of the conversation consisted of him telling me about Walmart, trying to goad me into thinking our propane dealer was out of propane, and telling me he wasn’t going back into town for a couple of weeks, maybe a month…he wanted to avoid anyone who might be sick already or would soon be sick. He was voluntarily social isolating. As he was telling me that I started coughing and sniffling. His wife and teenage son started to laugh and shake their heads…my neighbor just looked at me as if I was a delinquent teenager. I am. But it was funny.

So…

  • My neighbor was stressing to some degree since they made a run to town for supplies.
  • My friend was telling me that folks in Phoenix are stressing and their food infrastructure is starting to stress. He was obviously stressing to some degree as well since he and I were discussing his bugout plans and our plans when he would get to our area.
  • The propane dealer folks were all stressing, their company’s customers were stressing, and I couldn’t help but think how long it might be before they would run out of propane.
  • Lowe’s was stressed because there weren’t any customers there.
  • Walmart…well, you already have that picture…it was ALL stress.
  • My wife was stressed. Well, she is stressed anytime she deals with me. But, the trip to town was even more stressful because of the craziness going on.
  • And yes, I fall into the stressed category as well. While this was our normal weekly supply run, I did take in a partially empty propane tank, in addition to the empty one, to be refilled. And I normally wouldn’t have done that. We were buying extra chocolate bars, Oreo cookies, etc. just in case. But extra chocolate?!?!?!?!  Come on that just is commonsense when the world is coming to an end, right?

What I am getting at should be obvious…the system is under stress and showing signs of deficiency. Tens of billions of dollars are being lost in the economy right now. The market was down 14% at one point this week, over 25% in the last couple of weeks. The system is stressing. People are showing signs of stress and some portion of the population is becoming stressed out more than usual. And to top it off I read a report that a mall in California had a problem on Thursday with a large group of older teens causing problems and stealing. When confronted it turned a little violent, not bad. But, the mall shut down and is still shut down. With so many schools starting to announce closures what do think will happen with all those big city, inner-city teens?

What I want you to think about in this regard is your Situational Awareness. Pay close attention to what is happening around you…in both a micro and macro way. When you go out of the house are you doing so safely? Are you paying attention to what is happening around you…and especially the people around you? Are you prepared to rapidly and safely leave the area should you need to? Is your home safe or can it be made more safe against hard times? Those are a few “micro” ideas.

On a “macro” level…are you paying attention to news reports of violence or the potential of violence in your area? Are you tuned into a neighborhood watch team in your area? Are you monitoring radio and/or TV news? Are you paying attention to what radicals (Democrats, AntiFa, New Black Panthers, etc.) are saying and what they are promoting or warning against? Are you prepared to rapidly and safely leave your area should you need to?

Pay attention to people stressing and the “system” showing deeper signs of stress. It will telegraph what is coming in plenty of time for you to act…if you pay attention, act appropriately, and act in a timely manner.

Emergency Declaration –

One of the worse things a President can do!!!  It is detrimental to everything…with one sole exception…increasing government power. When a President issues a national emergency declaration (NED), for all intents and purposes, the Constitution is voided. Well, at least the parts ensuring rights, liberties, and freedoms. And other parts that become null are limitations on the federal government. A NED gives the federal government massive powers that are otherwise unconstitutional. They can do pretty much as they please…and you, the private citizen, are virtually powerless.

Example: Under NED the President can declare martial law. If people object to it and resist it…what happens? They are arrested and imprisoned…and due process is nowhere to be seen. And if you push it…you can simply be shot for resisting. And history proves the government will do just that.

The list of what the feds can do under NED is almost limitless…and once it starts going down that road the governmental power becomes limitless because there is little to no ability for average people to reverse it. Good luck with that!

Now, maybe we get lucky with President Trump and he doesn’t push it to the extremes that it can be pushed to. Maybe he controls himself and the federal government into not installing totalitarianism. Let’s hope and pray he does.

If you have a bugout plan than includes any significant amount of travel I would suggest you watch for three key trigger points…

1 – Federalization of National Guard troops.

2 – Travel restrictions for road travel of private vehicles or implementation of large quarantine areas.

3 – Enforcement of those travel restrictions and/or quarantine areas by National Guard troops…or far worse…enforcement by regular military troops. And no, Posse Comitatus won’t apply under NED. It’s all but dead in normal times, a NED eliminates it.

Steps to Consider –

The last few days I have outlined a lot of things to considering doing…review them and implement them as you see fit. Here is my board list of suggestions at this point:

  1. Learn what Situational Awareness is.
  2. Inform yourself of what is going on right now from legitimate sources and completely ignore those that are hyping the situation and pushing fear and panic through their actions and reporting. Stay up to date.
  3. Ponder about what is happening…yeah, that means think it through.
  4. Speak to your spouse (if you have one) about what you are thinking and feeling. Both of you ponder it and come up with a plan based on consensus. Be equally yoked…or at least have her approval if not her cooperation.
  5. Pray about it.
  6. Take those steps you feel are right for your family. But, before you take those steps, talk to your family about it as appropriate. If you just start acting they will see you doing things out of the ordinary and it will be unsettling, maybe even scary, to them. Talk to them before taking action.
  7. Act decisively. Don’t hesitate in taking action and move forward with confidence. Do not delay taking those actions contained in your plan.
  8. Do all of the above without fear, without panic, ignoring the hype and ignorance of others.
  9. Ask any question of me that you might have. I am open to answering any question.
Summary –

We are in a situation now in this country that quite frankly I’ve never seen before. We’ve taken a relatively non-issue that has been dealt with dozens of times and it’s been turned into a national crisis. And done so through ignorance, panic, fear, hysteria, and suspicious agendas.

One of the best trainings I ever took was a series of advanced leadership classes. In one of those classes at the very beginning we answered, in groups, a simple question, “What are the leadership qualities you look for in someone you are ready, willing, and able to follow?”

Nowhere on the list of positive qualities was there fear-mongering, panic pushing, hysteria, etc. Everyone wanted someone who saw the situation for what it actually was, had confidence in solving the problem, and a calmness to keep folks on track. In other words, someone calm and steady. I urge you to look for that leader around you…or become that leader.

People right now need leadership. The more we hear of national guard being activated, quarantines going into effect, restrictions on this, restrictions on that, shortages, this school being closed, that business shutting its doors, a government office being closed to the public, etc…the more people will panic and find their own solutions. And solutions bred of fear, executed with panic by hysterical people won’t be good for anyone…especially you! People need, want, and will greatly benefit from steady, calm, decisive leadership from someone who is rooted in reality, speaks plain truth with transparency.

I am guaranteeing you…next spring (2021) when the snow is melting away, and the trees are beginning to show signs of life we will look back on this time with some reflection. How will you see it? How will you judge your actions and the actions of others? What kind of conduct will you be proud of…or not? What will you have done to make this situation better…or worse?

There is an old saying…

“You are either part of the solution, or part of the problem.”

Which will you be?

My bet…

You will be part of the solution.

You have the heart for it, the character to do it right, and the ability to do so with competence and honor.

I trust you.

FAQ – 3/14/2020 (COVID-19)

  • You did a great job of explain where the COVID-19 virus name came from, etc. But, what does the “19” stand for?

The “19” is for the year that it was discovered.

  • Do you think the virus will mutate?

It already has. I am hearing it has mutated five times already. That is not verified but I have a source that tells me it has. We do know for sure that the virus has mutated once. And it became less deadly as a result of that mutation. All viruses mutate. It is a survival mechanism because they are a living thing and want to survive just like you and me. Sometimes they get more deadly…but that tends to kill off the host faster. Without the host the virus will die. So most of the time viruses will mutate (change) enough to become more virulent (stronger and more resistant to being killed) but not stronger to kill the host more quickly. Well, that certainly applies to non-weaponized viruses at least.

  • You talk like an expert on the COVID-19 virus situation, what gives you that right?

I am no expert on the virus, COVID-19 or any other virus…and I don’t pretend to be or represent myself to be. When I use “facts” about the virus I am using sources I feel to be credible (valid and reliable). And of course I am always expressing my opinion of facts.

As for the “situation”…well, that’s another matter. Unless you have lost track…I began fighting fire and responding to emergencies as a professional in the 1970’s and I retired in 2018. I have thousands of hours of incident response management training and thousands of emergency incident responses for experience. That experience covers a lot of the US, and a couple other countries as well. At the time of my retirement I was a qualified Type 3 Incident Commander, served as a Type 2 Operations Section Chief, had 6 years of experience as a member of a national Incident Management Team, etc. So yes, I have the training, knowledge, qualifications, and experience to comment professionally and expertly on the situation.

  • Are you saying to not prepare for COVID-19 virus?

For goodness sake!!  Have you seriously not read my articles?

Years ago I wrote a series of articles about Threats, Risks, Matrix, Mitigation (click here to read more). It is a step-by-step process by which you can identify those things in your life that pose a risk/threat to you and your family. On there I showed mine…and it had “flu” and “epidemic/pandemic” both listed on it as potential risks/threats. Now, there are many sources and a huge list of preventative measures you can take to protect against both. And many, if not most, of those sources are more qualified than I to give advice and recommendations on avoiding the flu so I don’t repeat/replicate that kind of information here. I try to provide original content.

Now to answer your question directly…I am telling to prepare for COVID-19 in EVERY aspect. My Immediate Action Warning from yesterday (click here to read more) is a perfect example of me telling you to prepare and providing original content. No other website that I am aware of has given out that warning yet. Most won’t. I am also telling you I have personally prepared for the COVID-19 as much as possible. Most of that preparation began decades ago, if not years ago in earnest. So…please prepare for the COVID-19 virus and its related panic.

Does that clarify my position enough for you?

Immediate Action Warning! (3/13/2020)

3/13/2020 – 0800

COVID – 19

I began considering issuing this “Warning!” last night, this morning I don’t see any alternative…I have to issue it. Before I get into the substance of it I want to say that I am embarrassed, humiliated, and deeply saddened to have to issue this statement. But the current situation makes it the prudent thing to do. Here goes…

Background –

COVID-19 is a disease caused by a virus named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The COVID-19 name comes from coronavirus identified in 2019. Coronaviruses were first identified 60 years ago, are common, and almost everyone becomes infected by a coronavirus at some point in their life, normally as a child. A coronavirus can appear in humans and animals. The most common yearly time frame in which the virus is spread is Fall and Winter.

Best estimates are the COVID-19 virus first appeared in China in December 2019 according to Chinese sources and World Health Organization (WHO) sources. Best available credible numbers indicate that as many as 3,000 –  4,000 Chinese citizens may have died from the COVID-19 virus. That is approximately .000003% of their population (if I did the calculation correctly).

The COVID-19 virus has now spread to a large portion of the world. Best estimates point to less than 6,000 deaths to date worldwide attributed to COVID-19. That is an almost incalculably small percentage of the world’s population. But, for perspective purposes the number of deaths from COVID-19 represents approximately 1% of the deaths of a normal regular flu season. Or .0002% of the deaths that occurred during the Spanish Flu outbreak of 1918.

As a result of the appearance of the COVID-19 in the United States we see large corporations taking some unusual steps:

  • Closing offices
  • Forcing personnel to work from home
  • Terminating travel
  • Canceling large and small meetings
  • The NHL and NBA have suspended their seasons
  • The MLB has delayed the opening of their season

Also many states’ governors have taken the following actions:

  • Closed all schools
  • Banned gatherings of people
  • Restricted travel
  • Activated large-scale Emergency Operations Centers
  • Activated the National Guard or notified them of potential activation

And those governors have done so primarily through declarations of emergency.

The federal government has taken the following actions:

  • Declared a Health Emergency
  • Restricted travel to/from China
  • Enacting a ban on travel to/from Europe
  • Implementing telework options for employees
  • Earmarked billions of dollars for a COVID-19 response
  • Considering declaring a national emergency
  • The Federal Reserve has created almost 2Trillion dollars and pumped it into the banking industry and the stock markets, as well as considering lowering the FedFund interest rate to zero

And we are seeing a near crash of the stock market…although the stock markets are bouncing back really well this morning. The markets have fallen significantly in the last couple of months and are now in near bear market territory. If the panic continues we could see the potential for a moderate crash of the stock markets. The same could be said for some sectors of the commodities markets.

Virtually all media is 24/7 with news reports, many partially or wholly fictional, concerning the outbreak and the current status of COVID-19. Websites are listing dozens, if not hundreds, of articles a day, many of which are not based in fact but based almost solely on opinion, or are fabricated stories all together.

As for “prepper groups” or the “prepper community” it appears to be just as bad. Over the last couple of months I have seen, generally speaking, the prepper community fare no better than the general public, perhaps worse in some cases. I am witnessing prepper websites pushing the fear, panic, and hysteria as widely, or more so, than the media in general. They are publishing articles without regard to authenticity, author qualifications, accuracy of figures, etc. Some of the websites are also promoting goods and services along with their hyping of the situation for profit and gain at the expense of the public welfare.

One of the largest prepper/patriot organizations in the United States just issued a plea to state and federal government leaders to take drastic emergency measures against COVID-19. Unfortunately those measures include restricting or eliminating Constitutional rights and freedoms.

As a result of the panic, hysteria, and fear being generated from almost every angle of society we are seeing panic buying in stores and online. People in a fearful frenzy are buying items as if this were an apocalyptic end of the world event. Many stores are not able to keep up with demand of essentials such as toilet paper. They are also mostly sold out of items such as hand sanitizer, disinfectant liquids and wipes, etc.

Warning Specifics –

As the panic continues to worsen, as fears deepen, as the hysteria grows we will see an increase in potential for violence, maybe even extreme violence. People may gain more of a mob mentally becoming irrational as essentials become more scarce or non-existent in stores and/or online…and as they fall victim to the panic pushers.

We know from sad experience that looting, rioting, and violence accompany irrational people who get swept up in a mob mentality of fear and panic. We are quickly approaching that point with the COVID-19 virus scare.

I am advising you to prepare for potential violence.

That potential violence could be against any member of your family, or your family as a group. That threat of violence could come in the form of threats of physical harm as in extortion, or actual physical harm, be it from gunshot or blunt force trauma.

There is no limitation on location where the violence could occur. However, it is most likely to occur in a public place after dark, in or around vehicles, in a larger population center. It would probably be in close proximity to a drug store, grocery store, general merchandise store, or camping/survival/hunting retail outlets. It is least likely to occur close to, or in, your home unless you are a prepper and your status as a prepper is known.

Actions to Take –

As outlined many times on my website, the threat of violence is the #1 risk in any emergency, disaster, or grid-down situation. While serious, there are steps you can take to mitigate the potential for, or severity of, violence.

Steps to consider are:

1 – Increase your Situational Awareness.

2 – Train family members in Situational Awareness.

3 – Review your security plan. If you don’t have one, develop one. Discuss with your family parts of the security plan that apply to your situation. Do NOT scare your family or create a panic situation within your family. Outside sources have already done enough damage through promoting fear, panic and hysteria…you don’t need to make it worse with those you love and cherish.

4 – Take prudent steps to secure your home from intrusion, especially intrusion as night.

5 – Avoid large public gatherings/crowds.

6 – If you are in a store or other public location and a confrontation occurs, leave immediately.

7 – Ensure all weapons are functional, cleaned, and ready to be put into action. Magazines are cleaned, readily available, and ammunition loaded.

8 – No family member travels alone.

9 – No child travels without an adult.

10 – One adult is always armed (conceal carry) when outside the home.

11 – Weapons for home defense are readily available for use.

12 – If you have a home defense plan that is coordinated with a neighbor or group, discuss the situation with them.

13 – Ensure the safety of ALL family members around firearms! The safety of children is especially important…do not jeopardize their safety around firearms!

14 – Review the “7 Common Risks/Threats” (click here) and take actions based on what you feel is appropriate for you and your family after careful consideration, pondering, and prayer.

15 – Make sure you have a 60 – 90 day supply of all medications on hand at all times.

16 – Keep a minimum of 3/4 of a tank of fuel in your vehicle. Maintain a minimum of a 5-gal can of fuel in reserve stored in a safe place.

17 – If violence breaks out in your community consider a “blackout” condition on your home at night. Meaning…make sure no visible light from inside your home can be seen from the outside of your home.

18 – Review your medical aid kits. Update items as needed. Review basic First Aid skills.

Summary –

The fear merchants and profiteers have won. They have created an atmosphere of panic and hysteria. In this situation the panic and hysteria is growing and will continue to grow. Expect to see violence, looting, and even rioting. The potential for these to occur continue to grow as long as the fear is encouraged to grow. And at this point…almost every source of information, almost every politician, almost every organization is promoting panic and hysteria…which leads directly to fear. Fear will drive the violence as it always does.

When most people get hungry they will have no problem taking food from you and your family. If they are sick and you have medicine they will have no problem taking yours. If you have shelter or any other essential of life and they need it, they won’t hesitate to take yours. This also applies to their perception of their need or their perception of your possession of the fulfillment of that need.

Again, I apologize for this “warning”…I truly do. I hesitated to send it out but felt an obligation to get information out to you for your consideration. It is not my desire to add to the fear, panic, or hysteria…there is enough of that going on already through ignorance or personal agenda. This warning is strictly for consideration to keep your family safe from the potential of violence.
