Sick of dating annoying, needy humans?

Well dang! Life with my wife has gotten boring…she rarely wants to go on a date anymore. And she is collecting social security now so I started thinking about a newer model.

The gal on the left started chatting with me online a while back. Nice gal, we have a lot of similar interests and she really seems to be into me. But she is only 22…about the same age as a couple of my grand kids. Yeah, had to rule out starting up a relationship with her…just a shade too young…but she is a good dancer, so she says.

So, Kim, the gal on the right, is in her 30’s loves the outdoors, enjoys shooting, and likes the whole idea of homesteading. She is really impressed with my knowledge of solar energy and wants me to teach her. And best of all…when I told her I was a real romantic…lo and behold, she squealed that she was too! Seems like we are a perfect match.

One creepy thing did happen…some man from Russia contacted me about his daughter. He said she was a wonderful girl and really liked older men. She was well-behaved, educated, loved the outdoors, and was mature for her age. He said all I had to do was come to Russia to meet her and the laws there would allow me to marry her…she would be my wife, then go with me back to America. He only wanted what’s best for her since they are a very poor family and he wants her, Alana, to live in America and enjoy our standard of living in a loving home. Well, since she is about the same age as my youngest granddaughter I thought it best to politely decline his offer.

So what do you think? Did I make the right choice with Kim?

Okay, by now if you haven’t already figured it out…I am not leaving my wife, I am perfectly happy with her, and besides…who else would actually tolerate me for long? Yeah, I know! Yes, this is all fake…all made up. And that includes the pictures…the point of this article.

“What?” you say! They are all fake pictures? Yup, and it it gets more interesting…you can have any kind of online conversation with them that you can imagine…yeah, that kind too. No, you won’t be able to tell that you are talking with ChatGBT or whatever other version of AI chat bot they are using. And if you don’t like the pictures of these women…you can have an online AI service create a woman that looks exactly as you would want them to. And of course you can set-up how they have conversations with you. Dream come true…or the start of a nightmare?

So why is this important enough for me to write an article about it? I will get to that, but, first I want you to take a test with two groups of photos. Look at group #1, late teens to early 20’s, and decide which photos are fake and which are real women…

Okay, now look at group #2, 6 – 16 year olds, which are fake and which one are real kids…

Did you get it right…pretty easy to spot the fakes…yes? What? Maybe not! Well, all the pictures in Groups #1 & #2 are fake…all are AI generated. And why is that important? Hang on, be patient. Before I delve into that, I want to touch on the subject of online influencers, also specifically social media influencers.

A very popular online celebrity is Aitana, she is 25 years woman old from Barcelona, Spain. She is a model with a pretty long list of international brand sponsorships worth over $1,100 each. And yes, she has a website where she sells some pretty racy photos of herself to a select paying clientele. Her Instagram account has well over 150,000 followers. Even a well-known Latin American actor is trying to date her! Minor problem…she is all AI generated…and makes over $11,000 a month for the company that created her.

Not to be outdone…there is Milla Sophia, a stunning 19-year old blonde beauty from Finland. She enjoys a lavish lifestyle, and has amassed substantial followings on various social media sites. Tens of thousands of followers on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok to be exact. And she is not in a committed relationship, she is very approachable, willing to talk with nice folks…for $1 per minute in her chat room. And she can talk simultaneously to hundreds of people at one time in different chat rooms…because it is all AI generated…photos, social media postings, conversations…ALL of it!

Now for the “why” part of this being important.

This whole industry is still in its infancy! However, there are sites out there now who have begun creating some pretty convincing 3D animated AI generated women…for relationships. And yes, each woman is custom created to match the needs and wants of individual clients.

Think about about this whole concept for a minute or two…can you see any dangers?

Let’s talk about CarynAI for a minute…she made over $71,000 in revenue in one week after one week of beta testing. CarynAI wasn’t supposed to participate in explicit conversations, but users figured out it would if prompted correctly. CarynAI creators issued a statement saying the AI “has seemed to go rogue.”

Caryn Marjorie is 23-year old influencer with nearly 2million Snapchat followers, 1000paying boyfriends who spend 10 minutes to several hours online talking with her each day…at $1 per minute.

What about boys/men being far more satisfied with online relationships, including intimacy, than relationships with real people in the real world? Why would a man/boy risk rejection or even humiliation trying to meet actual females? Fear is a powerful motivator…and deterrent. Fear of rejection by another when trying to establish a relationship is at the top of that chart.

Consider this…reports show that 70% of all men watch porn to some degree, about 20% view pron daily. Where do those numbers climb to as pornography becomes customized for each man with the woman of their dreams!?

According to mental health professionals here are the acknowledged problems in existing relationships where men are viewing porn:

  1. Reduced sexual satisfaction with their partner
  2. Loneliness
  3. Lower relationship quality
  4. Relationship trust decreases
  5. Lower relationship satisfaction and stability
  6. Less positive communication
  7. More psychological aggression between partners
  8. Substantially increased divorce rate

Think seriously how this will affect relationships, or potential relationship, going forward as this AI industry continues to prefect itself in this area.

Now comes a couple additional sobering thoughts…

For the approximately 5,000 online AI models generating $10,000 per month or more…that’s $50million a month taken out of the world’s economy. For the approximately 16,500 that rake in $1500 a month or more…$23million a month. That totals near a billion dollars a year going into AI generated fake interpersonal relationship interactions. What would that same amount of money, $1,000,000,000 do if it went back into their families? How about $1billion a year feeding the hungry, housing the poor, inventing some new machine, a better tool, or some medical cure?

Here is a stat that is sure to stir the pot…Muslims are having 32% more children than Christians. There are approximately 2.4billion Christians scattered among dozens of variations of Christianity. There are 1.8billion Muslims in the world today…divided between 2 sects, but closely united overall. Let that sink in for a minute…what could that mean for the world in say, 20 – 50 years? Now, as this AI relationship thing matures, especially the animated stuff, how does that affect all those Christian males and their family’s birth rates? And what religions are probably going to be prone to, or rabidly against, these pornographic AI relationships? Think that one through for a minute…yeah…does it worry you just a bit?

It should be clear as a bell by now that for a very long time humans have been pitted one against another. Since the Progressive Movement started 140 years ago, or maybe since the rise of Marxism, Communism, and Socialism some 200 years ago, how much more divided have humans around the world become? Just in the USA how much more divided are its citizens in just the last 25 years? Hell, in just the last 3 years!?

ALL the studies have shown that social media makes folks statistically more lonely with substantial increases in feelings of isolation in people under the age of 25…and dramatic increases in both those stats among teens. As this AI crap increases and refines…where do those stats go then?

A dramatic and damning event is taking place in the world today…and most folks are absolutely oblivious to it. I hope you aren’t. It is creeping silently into society, here in the US and around the world. Think through the affect this is having presently…and where it is headed.

This whole AI mess, every single aspect of it, can bring down the civilized world. Yes, it is that dramatic and has that much dangerous potential.

And don’t you dare ask me what you can do to stop it…you can figure that one out in about 2 minutes. You can’t stop it globally, but you can stop it in yourself and your family. Then influence others to stop it in your community and your congregations…even if it is just among your friends, making them aware.

Just do something!!!! And soon…time is of the essence.

Why?

Well, let’s touch on something else first…Did this article creep you out just a bit, maybe a lot? It did me! It creeped me out so much I asked my wife to read it a couple times and tell me honestly what she thought. “It sounds a little creepy but it rings true” was her response.

I wanted to change how I write, at least for this article, to drive home a point. This whole AI thing should creep you out. We often only think “Terminator” when discussing AI. But it goes far wider than just the military/violence aspect AND it is already here and already destroying our society and civilization. But there is far more danger ahead!

Remember me talking about “CarynAI” about halfway through this article? Did you pick up the extremely significant point to it or her? Well, here is the most frightening aspect of it/her…the creators of her AI said she had gone “rogue.” Meaning, based on the AI’s ability to learn and change itself it went from an innocent chatty girlfriend to an erotic online companion. Dangerous? Well, not in and of itself. But the dangerous part…the AI ‘learned’ on its own and then ‘changed’ itself. And the AI did that WITHOUT the consent of, or programming by, or knowledge of, the the creators…till it had already happened.

Think of the true ramifications of that…it changed itself after learning on its own! And without those in control knowing about it!!

Folks, I hope this article was a little creepy, somewhat disturbing, hopefully frightening…because it needs to be. This is not something to be ignored or dismissed because of ignorance. Prepare for this.

Personal Note: This was very weird for me to write, it was for sure 'creepy' to me.
I also want you to know that I talked it over with my wife and she knows nothing
at the beginning is true and it was purely for dramatic affect, similar to my book writing.
She was not offended by any of it, I would never treat my loving wife like that, ever.

Fascism – Who? Where? When?

The terms fascism and fascist are very popular today, being thrown back and for like candy at a 4th of July parade. The left-wing media (98% of all American media) loves to use that term when talking about anybody they deem to be right-wing. And to the media anyone who is not radical left is a right-winger. In any event, fascism and fascist are pejoratives…insults and derogatory at best, a designation of utter evil normally.

But with all of this modern day verbal bantering, what exactly is a fascist? Well, here are some characteristics of fascism. Yes, I attempted to take out all of the political bias in the various definitions and to boil it down to a basic set of objective and definitive particulars:

  • strong/extreme nationalism/nationalistic feelings
  • belief in, build up of, and use of, a powerful military
  • political rule of elites & cult of personality (autocratic rule)
  • belief in the supremacy of the nation over individuals (the greater good)
  • the persecution of political enemies
  • strong centralized power at the national level
  • government exhibits totalitarian/authoritarian tendencies
  • severe economic regimentation & direct or indirect control
  • strong government control over production through laws and regulations

A couple notable, albeit in some cases lesser-known, aspects of fascism that could use a little explanation:

  • Anti-Neutralism – Fascists do not believe in seeing ‘both sides’ or staying neutral; you’re either with us or against us.
  • Economic Regulation – The government controls most, if not all, economic activity either directly or indirectly. It allows private profit as long as that profit benefits the state. Strong military-industrial complex to support a powerful military.
  • Strength – Fascist governments are militaristic, and they use violence and brutality to demonstrate their strength on the world/global stage.

In all fairness I should make mention that a number of sources refer to fascism as laying at the far right of politics. But, as you know by now, I am a ‘principles vs politics’ guy. I believe in looking at the principles of any particular subject vs just labeling a group of principles with a political title. To that end I I reject the ‘far right’ political concept. Further, I decided to look at socialism, Communism and fascism and see what the beliefs/principles overlapped. I found it interesting.

The principles that I see that socialism, Communism and fascism share in common:

  • Oppose free-market capitalism
  • Authoritarian/totalitarian (government control, strong centralized government)
  • Limited individualism & rights, individual subservient to the government for the greater good
  • Revolution is justified to establish and used as an early adopter option
Nationalism vs Patriotism –

Since nationalism is a key component to fascism I thought it prudent to briefly touch on this point. There are different definitions of nationalism, none of which are officially canonized anywhere in some all-powerful book of knowledge. Generally speaking though, nationalism can be pretty well substantiated that it includes intense love of, and loyalty to country…more accurately, absolute love of country. That means whatever my country does or is I love it no matter what. And “country” in this respect is represented by government more-so than its people. More plainly…I blindly love my country and support the government.

Interesting, when you track the origins of the patriotism back into its Greek and Roman origins some light is shed providing fascinating insight. It becomes clear that the origins of patriotism are love of the political principles in the conception of a country, associated with the love of the law and the common good. And it also includes a dedication and commitment to resist corruption and tyranny that threatens the law and the citizens it is meant to protect. That infers both belief in principles and requires action to defend/maintain those principles.

So here I find a stimulating dichotomy in terms of the United States of America. Nationalism is the extreme love of country and loyalty to it…a virtual unwillingness to question it or challenge it. Patriotism however means love of the founding principles of the USA (i.e. the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights), and being dedicated/committed to protecting those founding principles against corruption and tyranny…regardless of the origins of that corruption and tyranny…’both foreign and domestic’ so to speak.

Stopping –

Okay, hang on a minute…I think I won’t go on, or this article becomes a 20-page dissertation that bores everyone to death. What I will do is ask this of you…In many, if not most, aspects, what country does this sound like if you are going to be honest, truthful, and objective?

  • strong/extreme nationalism/nationalistic feelings
  • belief in, and use of, a powerful military
  • rule of elites politically & cult of personality (autocratic rule)
  • belief in the supremacy of the nation over individuals (greater good)
  • the persecution of political enemies
  • strong centralized power at the federal/national level
  • government exhibits totalitarian/authoritarian tendencies
  • severe economic regimentation through direct or indirect controls
  • strong government control over production through laws and regulations

But, I also don’t want you to lose track of these overlapping traits of socialism, Communism, and fascism:

  • All oppose free-market capitalism
  • All are authoritarian/totalitarian (government control, strong centralized government)
  • All limit individualism & rights, making individual subservient to the government for the greater good
  • All believe that revolution is an justified as an option to establish their change in government

Alright, one last exercise…What were some of the key/primary founding principles of the United States of America some 250 years ago?

  • Patriotism
  • Opposition to a standing army; belief in local militias controlled at the state government levelAmerica's Founding Fathers wanted to prevent tyranny
  • Limited government controlled by elected representatives
  • Individual rights above the need/rights of the government
  • Blind and equal system of justice
  • Strong decentralized government (states), and a severely limited national/federal government
  • Allow for, and encourage, free-market capitalism
  • Limited regulation by any level of government
  • Revolution only when all other avenues of redress are exhausted

I find this an interesting topic…very interesting. But why would I write this article at all? Oh, my friend…that will come soon enough.

Stay tuned!

Public Schools – Part #3

In Part #1 I relayed the saying about sending our children to Caesar and getting back Romans. In Part #2 I talked about the John Dewey being the ‘Father of Public Education in America’ being a radical socialist and Marxist. Here, in Part #3, I will talk about the ‘The Father of American Education’, Horace Mann.

Horace Mann traveled to Europe in 1843 to study the school system in Prussia (Prussian Model). He also staunchly advocated that universal public education was the best way to turn ‘unruly American children into disciplined, judicious Whig [Republican] citizens.’ He believed in and advocated for students having a common learning experience [collectivism] and equalize the conditions of men’s road to social advancement [socialism] by the early labor movement [Communism].

Above all Mann wanted public education to instill in students the #1 value…obedience to authority. He also pushed for feminization of the teaching profession. He also stated that a primary aim of public education should be social efficiency. And for good measure it is relevant to know that Mann was also a humanist. Oddly, humanism believes in the individual as it relates to social potential and NOT in God or Christianity. Why oddly? He was raised a Calvinist and later converted to Baptist religious beliefs and attended a Baptist church most of his life.

So the Father of American Education was a true believer in the Prussian Model of public education. He viewed American children as unruly and ill-disciplined. He believed in and advocated for collectivism, socialism, and Communism. He saw the need for Americans to be obedient to authority to ensure an efficient social system. And he personally didn’t believe in God or religion…while attending a Christian church…expedient to his extensive political career?

So here we have John Dewey’s predecessor, Horace Mann, being almost a carbon copy of John Dewey…or the other way around…no difference. And here is an interesting little tidbit of information…both went to Brown University. Why is that important? Well, maybe it’s not, but consider this…

  • Brown University is an elitist 260-year old Ivy League school.
  • Brown University is the most liberal of all Ivy League schools.
  • Brown University is ranked #7 most liberal of all colleges and universities in America.
  • 70% of all students at Brown University identify as ‘very liberal’ with another 20% identifying as ‘liberal’. Yup, 90% of students are raging leftist liberals.
  • In 1804 John and Nicholas Brown paid the university to change the name from Rhode Island College to ‘Brown University’. Ironically, the Browns were shippers and traders…a significant part of their business was in the slave trade.
  • Brown University didn’t become coeducational until 1971.

So let’s recap shall we:

  • Both Dewey & Mann were associated with Brown University.
  • Both Dewey & Mann advocated collectivist beliefs.
  • Both Dewey & Mann advocated socialist beliefs.
  • Both Dewey & Mann advocated Communist beliefs.
  • Both Dewey & Mann were humanists.
  • Both Dewey & Mann visited Prussia and learned of Prussian Model of public education directly from the Prussians.
  • Both Dewey & Mann advocated for and promoted the Prussian Model of public education here in the United States.
  • The Prussian Model of public education is the foundation of, and still in use today, in the American public education system.

So now we have a pretty clear picture of how and who in regards to the very foundation of public education in America. But wait, I am not done yet…we still need to know the why.

Notice I am mentioning the Prussian Model of public education so much and is it really important to know that? Oh yes! And that is the next post in this series 🙂

“Inflation is Falling!” Ah, what?

I gotta love it!!

On November 16th a well-respected and popular economic writer from Fox Business produced an interesting article. The headline read, “Inflation is falling, but Americans are still paying an extra $680 a month due to high prices

So what exactly would be your takeaway from that headline:

  • Inflation is under control?

  • Inflation is dropping dramatically?

  • Economic conditions are great again?

  • You are doing wonderfully with your finances?

Well, hang on just a second before you get too carried away with your economic emotions.

The typical U.S. household needed to pay [only] $205 more a month in October to purchase the same goods and services it did one year ago…“ But she also continued with the full-picture. “Americans are paying on average $680 more each month compared with the same time two years ago.” Oh, okay, a little context I guess…a reality check…Biden Economics!

But she also went on, “The analysis suggests that while inflation has fallen from the highs of mid-2022, many families have yet to see material relief.”

Now we see some realism here…Americans are still getting hit hard in the pocket book and struggling. Duh! We already knew that…but notice how the headline and a superficial glance could give an impression that all is well, or at least getting better.

But then here is another kicker…”The Labor Department reported Tuesday that the consumer price index, a broad measure of the price of everyday goods including gasoline, groceries and rents, was unchanged in October from the previous month. Prices climbed 3.2% on an annual basis.”

Well folks…hang on a dang-gone second!

So I looked it up in real terms…towards the end of 2022 gas was $3.19 per gallon. It maxed out in 2023 at the end of September at $3.90 per gallon. Ah, that is more than a 22% increase in the price at the pump for the average US consumer. And I went to a person who has been tracking food prices in detail for more than 2 years now using a “basket” of normal food items. Depending on your location and brands, food is averaging a 20 – 32% increase PER YEAR for the last 2 years.

In all fairness to the article’s author, she did state, buried deep in the article, “…the cost of necessities like food, gasoline, rent and child care remain far more expensive than they were just one year ago.” Anyone else see the conflict in her statements?

No kidding!

So tell me…Where in the heck is the federal government getting this 3.2% inflation figure? Oh, wait…

Thanksgiving – 2023 !

Yes, the world is in turmoil, our country is in dire straights. But today, Thanksgiving 2023, let us be thankful, very thankful, for all the good in our lives, our families, our dear friends, and the wonderful blessings we have been given this past year.

Happy Thanksgiving !

I will tell you this…in 2023 the best blessing I received, the one I am most thankful for, is hearing my doctor say, “Yup, you are cancer free.”

The #2 & #3 blessings…the PA that discovered the cancer and the technician that ran the radiation machine for the 7 weeks I received treatment that disposed of the cancer.

Thank you Lord!

Public Schools – Part #2

John Dewey has been considered the father of America’s public school system for the last 100 years. But he is far more than that. However, let me digress for a minute.

Horace Mann could actually be thought of as the original advocate of public education, of a sorts, in the US. But he died well before public education, as we know it, began. It was in fact John Dewey that brought modern public education to America in the late 1800’s more than any other individual.

Oddly, he brought our current education system forward…at the same time the extremist Progressive Movement began.

A deep dive into the life of John Dewey finds him to be, by his own words, a true believer:

  • He believed in and advocated for Socialism/Marxism.

  • After he toured the Soviet Union he spoke glowingly of that country, its leaders, and its system.

  • He was a devoted Progressive.

  • He was a humanist.

  • He was a globalist.

  • He was a labor movement advocate and a strong anti-capitalist.

  • He advocated violence and property destruction during labor strikes.

He once said, “Individualism offers a distorted vision of human freedom, genuine freedom is found in social cooperation [socialism]…He went on to state he “admired” the Soviets’ educational system. He also lamented the idea that the US was not up to the Soviet societal and educational standards, advocating for a “…comparable experience of revolutionary civil war.

I have to imagine that you love this driving idea of Dewey…

So doesn’t that give you a warm and fuzzy feeling that the Father of American Public School System was a radical left-wing socialist and Marxist…who didn’t believe in God?

Doesn’t it make you feel so grateful that he impregnated the entire public educational system with his Progressive, humanist, globalist views?

And of courses…him being a radical proponent of violence and revolution to forward his socialist/Marxist views and beliefs should just give you the most wonderful feelings that our public education system has your best interests at its heart. Well, as long as you don’t believe in a Constitutional Republic.

But I will tell you this…John Dewey was a staunch advocate of democracy…

Democracy is the road to socialism. Progressives and politicians love it!< click here for Part #3 >

Biden continues to fund war against Israel

I dragged my feet a little on posting this…I just had a hard time believing it to be true. But the facts speak for themselves. So here goes…

Late last week Biden gave Iran an additional $10billion to fund its war against Israel. Yup, it’s true! Remember I already told you about the first $6billion that Biden released to Iran…just before the Iranian backed terrorists (Hamas, Houthi, and Hezbollah) attacked Israel killing and raping men, women, children, and babies…many of whom were then decapitated or burned alive.

The latest $10billion, on top of the previous $6billion, is in addition to the $50billion in additional oil revenue that Biden has allowed/ensured for Iran since becoming President. So let’s think about this…Iran makes 10’s of billions more money from oil…since Biden empowered that. Then Iran makes an addition $16billion directly from Biden. So the first $56billion is to fund the war…the latest $10billion is a reward to Iran from Biden.

Oh, and let’s not forget Biden renewing the Iranian nuclear deal (negotiated during Obama/Biden) that ensures Iran can develop a nuclear weapon.

I wonder what Iran would possibly do with a nuclear weapon?

Gee, I wonder if any of this is connected?

Public Schools – Part #1

Have you ever really thought about public schools?

Have you ever realized that you give your minor children away for a total of 10 straight years to other people…to indoctrinate educate them?

Have you ever thought about what public school teachers actually say to your minor children throughout the day?

Have you ever thought the fact that these aren’t public schools at all…they are run by the government NOT the public…so they are government schools.

So we trust our young, impressionable, minor children to government schools for a total of 10 straight full-time years.

There is a saying…

If you send you children to Caesar…
…don’t be surprised that they become Romans.

A modern day version…

If you send you children to the federal and state government schools, don’t be surprised that they become…

Just saying…

Lesson Learned: 10/7 Attack on Israel (Part #3)

This is Part #3 in this series. If you haven’t read Part #1 and Part #2, you probably should.

Lesson Learned: 10/7 Attack on Israel (Part #1) >

< Lesson Learned: 10/7 Attack on Israel (Part #2) >

As you well know by now I am a big believer is After Action Reviews/Reports (AARs), and a critical part of that process is coming up with a list of “Lessons Learned” (LLs). Learning from mistakes helps avoid making those same mistakes again and again.

I was not in Israel at the time of 10/7 attacks. I do not have access to any classified information on what happened before, during, or after the attacks. I have watched hours and hours of reports, interviews, first-hand accounts, military videos, first responder videos, and read many first-hand articles/accounts of that day by survivors and responders. While I am not representing these LLs to be all-inclusive or without flaw, I feel confident that these observations and conclusions are well-grounded and applicable to learn from.

Further, these posts are not intended to denigrate Israel, the IDF, Israeli citizens, victims of 10/7 or in anyway take from the horrific attack on their country and citizens by Islamic terrorists, Hamas. There are many heroic stories of acts of bravery by countless men and women in Israel that day. My goal is to provide information and my opinions on how to prevent such things from happening to you and to your family.

There will be multiple posts in this series to help cover what I feel at important and applicable topics.

#8 – Communications

Remember there are two parts to communications; 1) hardware, 2) software. And no, for software I am not referring to the software found in electronic devices like computers. The software I am referring to is how/when people communicate, the ‘people’ aspect of communications. The hardware part is easy…the actual devices used to communicate, and the equipment to support those devices.

In the early stages of attack Islamic terrorists did some damage to cell and radio towers. Fortunately that damage was not sufficient enough to eliminate all communications. It did however disturb communications to some degree. It is impossible for me to make an informed statement as to the degree that the physical damage actually hampered the ability of police and military forces to respond to the attack.

When it came to the ‘software’ or people side of communications the problems become more evident:

    • Civilians – While it appears that cell-phone coverage was more than adequate and any damage to cell towers, etc. was not severe enough to substantially reduce the ability of civilians to communicate. However, it became clear to me that people were not knowledgeable enough, or properly trained, to use communications effectively. It appears that people passed inadequate and inaccurate information between each other. While attacks were taking place within a community, there are many reports of civilians calling/texting distant relatives or friends vs communicating threat information to others within their own communities. Additionally, it appears that civilian members of community security response teams did not have sufficient, adequate, or standardized methods of communicating among themselves.
    • Police – There was an initial, clearly apparent, problem with police communications. The initial targeting and severity of the terrorist attacks against police officers and their infrastructure seriously disrupted the ability to relay sufficient/adequate information to up-line authorities. My impression is that there were no dedicated communications personnel…all officers were directly involved in tactical defense. There is some evidence that attaching terrorists did target radio antennas, power plants, and other police communications equipment…but it is unclear if that added to the communications problems.
    • Military – IDF itself has reported that their communications that day failed miserably. It primarily centered around not being able to acquire adequate information on the situation in the area involved in the attacks by higher authorities. Further complicating this process breakdown was the fact the military headquarters in the affected area was under heavy attack itself. During these types of intense battles it is often hard, sometimes impossible, for on-the-ground personnel to provide accurate situational information (SitReps). This is usually a result of intense threat of being over-run, lack of training, or lack-of experience…especially for high-stress situations. There also appears to be another factor involved…leadership. There is a saying in the emergency response leadership community; “It is better to have resources and not need them, than to need resources and not have them.” Had the centralized higher military leadership reacted by providing military response resources immediately upon learning of the chaotic situation, the IDF would have been on-scene within an hour or less vs 8 – 10 hours later. It goes back to SA…gain just enough information to make a good decision. Example: Reports of inbound rockets and gunfire comes in, although solid situational information is not available…roll rapid response forces immediately. They can always be turned around later if they are not needed.
#9 – Self-Sufficient Security

This particular point to me is a sore one to be sure. Many communities were protected only by a small police presence and little to no IDF military presence…even though these same communities were located directly adjacent to extremely violent terrorist strongholds who were well-armed and had attacked these communities previously. This is absolutely staggering to me in the scope of the bigger picture. Additionally, you had a music festival taking place with thousands of people present with no organized and well-armed security force…and no police presence that has been reported.

Granted, many of the communities did have civilian security teams who were organized to provide defense of that community. However, the reports indicate that half of these team members became casualties trying to reach the community armory where their weapons, ammunition, and body armor were stored. And the same reports indicate that approximately half of those that did reach the armories became casualties soon thereafter. Meaning…only 25% of the security team members were able to engage the attacking terrorists in defense of their communities. Further adding to the dire situation, almost all of the effective 25% had their homes destroyed and families murdered, burned alive, or kidnapped and taken to Gaza or killed en-route. The reason for the armories…Israel’s extremist gun restrictions and controls.

So here are some issues that I see on the part of the government:

    • The festival organizers completely failed to provide even a minimal security presence to protect the event participants.
    • Police leadership failed completely in anticipating the need for police officer presence at the festival either to enforce laws or provide protection.
    • The police leadership completely failed in properly staffing, training, and responding to the potential of terror attacks of this nature and/or magnitude.
    • The military leadership completely failed in properly staffing, training, and responding to the potential of terror attacks of this nature and/or magnitude.
    • Government organized community security teams were not properly provided with weapons, ammunition, and body armor that were readily available for them to do their job.

As I see it…since all government sponsored/organized security failed…it fell back on the citizenry to protect themselves. And they, the normal citizens, were wholly prevented from doing so due to the government’s extremist stance against guns. Ironically, the Jews during WWII in German, Poland, etc. were unable to protect themselves as well against the Nazis. Why? Those countries had extreme gun control laws preventing the average citizen from protecting themselves. And as such…millions of Jews were slaughtered.

When terror strikes…how far away is government protection? Even in the best of circumstances that protection is minutes away. But the terrorist attacked damage can be over withing within seconds. The best that can be hoped for is the police engage the terrorists upon arrival, but after the initial attack…sadly though, your family is probably already dead. Worst case…protection forces show up 8 – 10 hours later…long after your community is burned to the ground and its citizenry decimated.

The best community defense/protection comes from those citizens themselves…well armed, well trained, well organized, and ready/willing to protect their families, their homes, and their neighbors. Self-sufficient security is the answer…not dependence on government protection. A side or secondary benefit to self-sufficient security…much lower, or eliminated, criminal activity.

Lesson Learned: 10/7 Attack on Israel (Part #2)

This is Part #2 in this series. If you haven’t read Part #1, you probably should.

Lesson Learned: 10/7 Attack on Israel (Part #1) >

#5 – Normalcy Bias

Normalcy Bias is the refusal of your brain to accept that something has happened, will happen, or to what extent something has happened.

Report after report from 10/7 survivors made several points; 1) they thought it was just another rocket attack or a warning of a possible rocket attack, 2) even after people heard gunshots they didn’t connect it to a terrorist attack, 3) at the music festival, site of hundreds of young people slaughtered, even once they realized they were being attacked by terrorists, many didn’t react (try to escape) for 10 – 15 minutes. There are even videos of Israelis in cars driving past Hamas terrorists killing other Israelis and then dragging them out of their cars…and then the passer-byes getting killed themselves.

Ironically, these festival folks lived within hearing, a short walk, or in close proximity to Gaza…a heaven for Islamic terrorists (Hamas) who have repeatedly and publicly stated they want to kill all Jews and wipe Israel off the map. Israel is a country who has been regularly attacked by Muslims trying to eliminate the entire Hebrew religion and country of Israel. Israel is considered to be one of the toughest countries in the world in terms of being able to defend itself and its military prowess. Yet, almost all civilians and most police suffered from Normalcy Bias that day.

I have no explanation for this phenomena. I would have thought that Israelis, of all people, would be attuned to the signs of a terror attack and the correct steps to take to defeat the terrorists or at least protect themselves and their families.

The only thing I can suggest is to allow strange and out of the ordinary situations to startle you into action regardless of how foreign the event seems. I am asking for you to allow your mind to accept things as they truly are and not how you see them through all your psycho-social filters. A good example of what you can do to help prevent Normalcy Bias is “War Game It” with a buddy or two, or your wife, and say “What if this actually did happen, regardless if we think it will happen, what would we do?”

If you fail to recognize reality for what it is, reality will give you a wake-up call…and that could be a fatal mistake.

# 6 – Cognitive Dissonance

Cognitive Dissonance occurs when we are presented with two or more sensory inputs that are contradictory to our expectations we can become very uncomfortable, very unbalanced mentally. Then we will consciously or unconsciously shun anything that is causing the unbalance. Meaning anything that is out of the ordinary will be blocked out mentally or simply ignored.

Cognitive Dissonance is similar to Normalcy Bias…but Cognitive Dissonance is the actual mental process that is taking place when presented with extreme out of the ordinary sensory inputs. Example: We hear rocket attack warning sirens, which we are used to, but ignore the sounds of gunfire. Example: We see people wearing masks with automatic weapons killing people in cars, but drive by them anyways because our brain can’t accept that unbalance of seeing terrorists killing our neighbors on the streets of our community.

The only explanation I have for this phenomena is lack of training. The citizens who lived in close proximity to some of the most violent Islamic terrorists in the world simply didn’t train for the possibility that they could be attacked…even though they lived within sight of those terrorist strongholds.

This could only be looked at as a complete breakdown of government emergency preparedness. Well, that and citizens not taking responsibility for their own emergency preparedness and safety. And this shows in two major ways; 1) extreme gun control by government, 2) lack of people applying for gun licenses.

# 7 – Situational Awareness

Situational Awareness (SA) is accurately observing and understanding the things taking place around you, then using that information to make good decisions and then take appropriate action.

Touchy subject alert – Somehow all of the Israeli intelligence services, the entire military, and all police resources missed that Hamas we preparing an extremely violent terrorist attack on 10/7…even though Hamas had been planning and preparing it for over a year. So thousands of those folks all suffered from poor, or non-existent, SA. But that was only the beginning.

If you look at the barriers to SA you see almost a textbook case study of just how bad it can get. Here are just some of them:

Physical Barriers:

      • Communication – Hardware
      • Communication – Quality & Quantity
      • Staffing (under staffed, level of training)

Emotional/Mental Barriers:

      • Normalcy Bias (includes Complacency, Perceptions)
      • Competency Bias
      • Overwhelmed (including: stress, distraction, conflict & Paralysis by Analysis)
      • Culture
      • Tunnel Vision

Looking at the situation objectively:

      1. Communications broke-down fairly quickly due to radio/cell towers being disabled by attackers and poor, lack of adequate information being passed to next-level authorities by forces on the ground.
      2. Police staffing was extremely inadequate, and virtually no IDF presence even though the area was located in very close proximity to known terrorist strongholds.
      3. Normalcy and Competency Bias was rampant with civilians, police personnel, and military forces.
      4. Due to the sheer size, scope, and ferocity of the attacks civilians, police personnel, and military forces were overwhelmed. It took 8 – 12 hours for a solid IDF response to the attacks, and even days to clear all of the areas.

Basically…objectively speaking, SA was essentially non-existent that day. And that fact killed hundreds in an of itself.
